I’ve thought about it for a long time, and there really aren’t any.
The company is in an elevator building, has desks and electric lights, and employs someone to clean the office. Does that count as a benefit?
1. There is severe infighting, and people often report on one another to supervisors—a speechless workplace culture. I just want to do my work properly.
2. They don’t trust designers’ expertise. Designs have to be put to a vote by other departments and then revised according to ridiculous opinions.
3. The computers provided to designers at this company are still running Windows XP and Windows 7, with only 4–8 GB of memory. Many software programs are no longer supported, and the entire computer setup can be described as antique-level. I requested a computer as soon as I started working there, but it still hadn’t been replaced by the time I left.
4. They ignore employees’ hardware requests while constantly making unreasonable demands and insulting your designs. Making major revisions ten times is just an ordinary day.
5. Whether in fashion design or visual design, “designer” is a position with no status or dignity at this company. Here, designers are merely workers who revise designs according to the boss’s peculiar preferences. Yet when business performance is poor, it is the designer’s responsibility.
