Cons

Rongzhi Crown Co., Ltd.

Dongguan Huaguan Rubber & Plastic Products Co., Ltd.

These two are actually the same company. After I submitted my résumé through 1111, they notified me to apply for an overseas-based sales representative position in Dongguan. During the interview, the owner, Mr. Tseng, was quite friendly. He gave me a general introduction to what the company does and why they were hiring again, and he straightforwardly told me on the spot that I was hired. The basic salary was also generally consistent with what was listed on 1111. I would return to Taiwan four times a year, excluding labor and health insurance.

However, what happened afterward left me speechless.

I submitted my résumé on June 9 and went to the interview on Wednesday, June 12. As mentioned above, I was hired on the spot, and we agreed that I would report for work in the latter half of the month. Mr. Tseng said that an assistant would contact me then. However, I received no notification at all by the latter half of the month.

On June 23, I sent Mr. Tseng a text message to ask about reporting for work and what documents I needed to provide. There was no response.

On June 25, 26, and 27, I called Mr. Tseng’s mobile phone, but it was turned off and went straight to voicemail. I assumed he was not in Taiwan.

On June 25, I submitted my résumé again through 1111 and left a message asking about reporting for work.

On June 28, I called Huaguan’s office in Taichung. The staff there all said they did not know that they were supposed to notify me to report for work. I also asked them to help contact Mr. Tseng, but there was no response.

On July 2, I submitted my résumé again through 1111 and left a message asking about reporting for work.

On July 2 and 5, I called Mr. Tseng’s mobile phone, but it was turned off and went straight to voicemail. I assumed he was not in Taiwan.

At that point, I could only give up.

I can only say that I was completely speechless at this behavior. During the interview, he was so decisive when saying I was hired that I specifically asked Mr. Tseng, “Then I don’t need to attend the interviews I have scheduled with other companies, right?” He said, “No, you don’t need to. (Your hiring by Huaguan) has already been decided.” Yet when the time came, he completely disappeared without a trace.

As a result, I turned down one offer and two interview opportunities, only to have everything fall through in the end. I had no choice but to start looking for a job again.

I feel that looking for a job is like finding a person: both the employer and the employee need to have trust in each other. Especially since it was the owner himself who spoke with me, I thought that a company that had been operating for so long (claiming to have been founded in 1979), with locations in Taichung, Dongguan, and Vietnam, would at least keep its word. Even if there were other considerations in the end and they changed their mind, they should at least have informed me. By the way, this is a long-standing job posting on 1111—it is still posted even now. I am sharing this experience simply as a reminder to job seekers who are considering applying.
