An early-early-early, night-night-night, rest-rest shift pattern, with 12-hour work shifts each day. The year-end bonus is fixed at two months’ salary, and there are none of the other bonuses typically offered by chemical plants, such as production or performance bonuses. The annual salary is just over NT$500,000, with no salary adjustments—unchanged year after year.
The plant is located in the remote Wuci District, in the middle of nowhere, and you even have to pass through a checkpoint to get to work. The only companions are the blazing sun and fierce winds. The company looks respectable, but in reality, its shift system and compensation are nowhere near those of leading companies in the industry.
