Basically, the only advantage is the time off. They probably provide that because they’re afraid employees might turn against them. There are no other advantages.
This is a company that has built its reputation on returns. It sells the same products as other companies, but while other companies can sell them, the maintenance shop is expected to return them to this company. The boss will even criticize you and ask what the problem is and how this could have happened, telling you to think it through yourself.
When new employees first join, they also say, “If you have any problems, feel free to ask! We’re just afraid you won’t ask.” But then, when you bring up a problem you’ve never encountered before, the boss says that it’s something you need to think about yourself. What the hell? I have absolutely no experience in this industry, which is why I asked. Not only do they refuse to answer, they also say that you’re not proactive enough and so on. They then proceed to berate you, showing off as if they’re the only ones with good ideas.
Another thing: When this company delivers large parts, it requires employees to use the company’s truck, and this truck is extremely old. Here’s the key point: it has absolutely no air conditioning. If you deliver something somewhere far away, you’ll practically be able to change into a new set of clothes by the time you arrive. When this issue was brought up, the boss simply ignored it and showed no intention of having it repaired. After all, he isn’t the one who has to drive it. Do they treat employees like consumables?
