This post was submitted by a user and reflects their personal experience or opinion. The publication date is not an employment or interview date.
No advantages were found during the interview process.
The interviewer did not introduce the company, job responsibilities, or benefits at all.
My time was wasted. The position I interviewed for was an assignment in Shanghai, and the interviewer was a woman from mainland China.
The job listing on 104 clearly stated the salary range, and my résumé also specified my desired compensation, which was within that range.
However, when I was asked about my desired compensation, the interviewer immediately said it was impossible as soon as she heard the amount!
She then casually said she would submit my résumé for further consideration and ended the interview hastily.
If the company cannot pay that amount, why list it in the first place, and why invite me to an interview? Did they even look at the applicant’s résumé?
What is even more unreasonable is that she apparently wanted to use my salary in Taipei as the basis for the salary for an assignment in Shanghai.
One is a domestic position and the other is an overseas assignment—how could they possibly be the same? Not to mention accommodation and meals, airfare, income tax, and other considerations.
Even more absurdly, when I objectively explained Taiwan-based employees’ typical compensation for overseas assignments and the cost of living in Shanghai, she interrupted me and said that there was no such market rate—her own company did not offer that rate. Other companies do!
I advise job seekers to assess for themselves whether they want to waste their time on this.
