Cons

The boss himself has some design ability and speaks very convincingly, so nothing seemed suspicious during the interview. But it was exposed on my very first day. The position advertised was design, but after I started, it became planning. Please—these are completely different areas of expertise, yet I was asked to bring a design portfolio??? The requirement to bring my own laptop was also not stated in advance. I only found out on my first day (I started two weeks after accepting the offer; if I had known beforehand, I would not have gone). The reason was that they were worried about messy desktop-computer cables! There was also a “designer” who had only been there for a month and was basically at the level of a graphic-production assistant, with a background in graphic work for traditional industries. Their experience was limited as well. I talked with this “designer,” and their entire one-year design career consisted of disposable, low-level graphic-production work. The boss himself described this designer’s portfolio as “ordinary” and said their abilities needed improvement! Someone who has no ideas about even their own design fundamentals and only wants to satisfy the boss’s fantasies—is that a designer? The requirements were fundamentally impossible to satisfy... Bringing my own laptop like an unquestioning employee—what an incredibly naive employer... No wonder they needed to hire another person like me... Officially, I was supposedly going to do planning, but in reality I also took over this “designer’s” design work, such as catalogs and company promotional materials.

On my first day, I was already asked about sales ideas and sales plans. Was planning not enough—they also wanted someone with a salesperson’s background? A meeting started at 10 a.m. and I was asked to think about it; after lunch at 1 p.m., we discussed it. If a sales plan could be produced in under three hours and the boss was willing to listen to it, I wouldn’t even know what to say... Besides the wooden-house products, the company also has a restaurant, so I had to handle both event planning and sales plans. Asking me to redesign the catalog and flyers would be reasonable, but they also wanted me to manage the company’s social media—what was that about?? Was it because my salary was considerably higher than the standard amount listed on 1111? If I had known I would be doing three jobs in one, I would have asked for a six-figure salary! There were more than three meetings a day, each lasting one to two hours, and 90% of the time the boss was the one talking. During regular working hours, it was best not to expect to have time to “do design.”

This section is basically the headquarters, I suppose. There were seven people there, and the boss, the boss’s son, and the son’s wife already accounted for three of them. Another person was about to resign. The proportion of family members was a bit too high, and it definitely made it difficult to get things done.
