Pros

1. The probability engineer interview questions were challenging—among the three most difficult ones I’ve encountered at gaming companies.

(But for an interview, they were completely pointless, especially since not enough time was given.)

Cons

A young interviewer (the probability engineer) and an older one (the PM) interviewed me. I explained the knowledge and skills I had used in my previous work experience (mainly game theory). The older interviewer merely chimed in and filled in some rules I had forgotten (because I’m not very familiar with the game settings in gambling; whenever I design something, I review the rules carefully from scratch).

The younger interviewer kept shooting me down, repeatedly saying: “It feels like you’re just using some terminology, but you don’t understand the content behind it.”

Before I left, he even asked me to summarize what I had explained (game theory) in “one sentence”—like those gimmicky book covers that say “Understand quantum mechanics in one sentence,” the kind of books that deceive children. It’s not impossible, but it only gives a childlike understanding.

I answered: “Find the intersection of the solutions.” But it was obvious that he didn’t agree after hearing it and left, seemingly thinking that I was too incompetent or something.

In the end, HR also asked to take the materials I had presented, saying they wanted to use them as a reference. At the time, I didn’t think it through and assumed they wanted to review my work content, so I agreed (but there was never any follow-up). Looking back, they probably just stole them outright and couldn’t be bothered with me.

The young interviewer was afraid that someone would take his job, so he repeatedly shot people down without any substance to secure his own position. It was truly ridiculous.
