Thoughts on the Brand Design position in the Planning Department

Basically, it’s a very superficial company where you constantly have to put on a performance to maintain a superficial harmony, because there are many informants in the company and everyone comments about you behind your back. People who like to talk nonsense or chat at work need to be especially careful. The job involves joining many LINE groups, as well as adding coworkers on LINE. If you like posting on your LINE timeline, you need to be careful, because if the boss happens to see something they dislike, you’ll lose points. You should probably stop posting game-sharing content too (yes, the boss really does have nothing better to do than look at your updates, including whether you’ve changed phones or merely thought something was funny and reposted some vulgar post; they’ll even gossip about it with your department manager and include it in your overall evaluation).

You get criticized for chatting, and called cold if you don’t chat. If you finish your work and don’t work overtime, you’re accused of lacking team spirit. You might as well let them do all the talking... The Planning Department manager often works very late, with records of working until 3 or 4 a.m. It may be because there’s a manager with a slave-like mentality who loves living at the office and perhaps has no warmth at home, leading to this result. Under the previous department managers, the Design team had no overtime records at all. Then a new manager arrived, and suddenly everyone had to stay and work overtime with him... Previous employees also said that whether you work overtime largely depends on the department manager.... As expected, a good manager leads you to heaven, while a bad manager also leads you to heaven—but the kind after you’re dead~~

There is a record of violating the Labor Standards Act and being fined, so attendance at franchise exhibitions comes with compensatory leave, but regular overtime still does not. You clock in under an attendance system, but once work ends, it suddenly becomes a discretionary-work system.

If you want to learn how to deal with people, you can go there—but first ask yourself whether you want to become the kind of person you hate.

If you want to learn how to get things done, unless you’re very interested in understanding what tricks the franchise system is playing, you’re better off skipping it.

Even a simple design piece will be revised 9,981 times by the boss as a matter of course. They also love imitating another brand’s work without saying so explicitly. After completing a design, making another version that looks very similar to that brand’s work has a high chance of getting approved.

There is no overtime pay, but for the sake of departmental solidarity, you’re expected to stay and work overtime—even if there’s nothing to do. When employees from other departments leave on time, if you also leave on time, you’re considered rebellious, and then they’ll say the Planning Department is a disorganized mess. The department manager will ask whether you want to work overtime... (Strangely, the only department that always works overtime is the Planning Department.)

In summary, if you love putting on an act, don’t need to do your work particularly well, and can avoid causing problems, you can go there. Ideally, you should have no family, parents, or friends—no ties and no worries—like Ko P’s aides, staying and working with the department manager until the early morning before going home. If you can work unpaid and accept having your pay deducted according to company policy, welcome aboard.

Alternatively, if you aren’t afraid of this system, believe that finishing your work should mean being able to leave on time, can resist emotional blackmail, or have a strong enough heart to be prepared to make today your last day at any time, you’re also welcome to take on the challenge.
