The internal staff were very courteous.
Position applied for: Interior Designer
The interview location was different from the location provided in the notification, and I was later still asked to walk there by myself…
When I arrived at the interview location, I was immediately asked to take a computer test, which differed from what had been described over the phone. I didn’t mind, but one computer was broken, one didn’t have the software installed, and one was being used by someone else…… So I had to wait until the company employee finished using one before I could take the test. I waited for about an hour and still couldn’t take it. An internal staff member informed me that they would conduct the interview first. Just as I was getting up, they changed what they said and told me that there was someone else scheduled to be interviewed after me (for an engineering position), and that person had already arrived, so they asked me to let the person behind me interview first. Okay~ I waited for another hour……
I never got to take the computer test, and the person scheduled to be interviewed afterward was moved ahead of me… I spent more than two hours just waiting for the interview. I was finally able to go in for the interview, but the boss did not look at my portfolio or résumé. Instead, he immediately talked about his design experience. After listening to him speak at length, he also went ahead and stated the salary (under 30,000). Hmm… offering this amount for an interior designer… I understand why the job bank has had this position posted continuously. When I tried to ask questions, the boss only said that he was very busy and told me to ask quickly, but he also didn’t know the answers to even basic questions (which was quite surprising!). In the end, he only realized that I had not taken the computer test, and without wanting to understand why, he directly said that I was not suitable for their company…
1. The boss lives very much in his own world.
2. They showed considerable disrespect toward interviewees. Perhaps formal employees are treated with more respect.
3. Design is relatively subjective, so it is difficult to comment, but in terms of clearly communicating one’s own ideas, presenting one’s work, and professional capabilities, they were quite lacking. It gave me the feeling that an outsider was leading experts.
4. The office environment felt more like a contract manufacturing factory than a design company. Even the monitors were pitifully small.
5. The internal staff were very courteous, but they also seemed rather disorganized and very afraid of the boss.
P.S. I believe this company probably has an extremely high turnover rate and shows very little respect for people. After the boss decided on the spot not to hire me, the internal staff still asked me to wait to take the computer test. I glanced at it, and it was actually just drawing plans for their company’s projects. Whether this was a way to save on personnel costs is impossible to know, but I also didn’t want to waste either of our time, so I said, “Thank you; please contact me again.” Until I blocked the company, I continued to receive phone calls or messages from them inviting me to interviews approximately every week after the interview…
