The interviewer for the sound engineer position was excellent.
1. A three-month probationary period was proposed, with pay below the statutory minimum wage.
2. Working hours were 10 a.m.–10 p.m., with no overtime pay.
3. Everything had originally been prepared, but because I am a foreign national, I needed to meet the requirements of the Labor Standards Act in order to obtain a work permit. After I raised the issue in point 1 with the interviewer, I was rejected with the following explanation: “The boss felt that this would be underutilizing your talents and was concerned that, being in a foreign country, you would face salary pressure, excessively long hours, and so on.”
I believe they knew that both the salary and working hours violated the Labor Standards Act, yet still insisted on doing this. I advise everyone not to let such unscrupulous bosses and companies drain away the prime years of your life.
