Using the British identity, even the tissues handed out to passersby have the British flag on them. I personally like everything about Britain, so I don’t mind things related to Britain either.

I worked at the Neihu branch. The supervisor’s name starts with J. At first, I thought she was very enthusiastic, but later I found her exhausting. She was either very quiet and wouldn’t talk, or she would keep chattering nonstop and be very noisy. Most importantly, who provides fewer seats in an office than there are employees????? That means every day there are people who can’t get a seat. Isn’t that a very childish way to manage things? Making everyone fight for one.

The decision about who gets assigned to work there is made by the head office, but the supervisor seems to have no say. If she doesn’t like you, working there is very difficult, so it’s easy to be misled during the interview, because the people at head office don’t understand the situation at the actual workplace you’ll be assigned to. The questions you ask during the interview may receive answers that turn out to be different from the actual working conditions.

The employees there are almost all students paid by the hour, so there’s little opportunity to work with people of the same age. Some students are very easy to coax into talking; in other words, they readily reveal their complaints. Then you discover that the company’s money is actually handed over to students to take home for safekeeping... Isn’t that outrageous? The supervisor doesn’t dare manage the money herself and actually makes students responsible for it. If the money goes missing, the students are held responsible—and it’s stacks and stacks of banknotes.

And this kind of company is mainly staffed by British people, right? The British employees there are quite arrogant. They come to work in our country, yet look down on the locals, and they even dare to sit in the supervisor’s seat! The supervisor doesn’t even dare tell them to get up! Isn’t that completely backwards...? Those foreigners—if they weren’t unable to make a living in their own country, why would they come to work in our relatively backward country? Foreigners coming to Taiwan should be groveling. We Taiwanese are the ones paying; Taiwanese people are the employers hiring foreigners. What are these foreigners acting so cocky about? It’s all because we’ve spoiled them.
