The scariest part:

I heard from an employee that a while ago, a pretty new female employee was sexually harassed by the boss under the pretext of “reading her palm.”

That employee, like me, resigned after working only a few days.

At the time, I just listened to the story, because I thought that, given my looks, I wouldn’t have that kind of problem.

But....last night, while I was on the phone with my boyfriend,

(because we are in a long-distance relationship, we have a habit of leaving the call on while we sleep)

I heard someone opening the door to my room!!!!!

I’m certain it wasn’t another employee....because I returned to my room and went to sleep only after discussing work matters with them until we fell asleep.

This morning, I was also certain it wasn’t a guest or another employee.

My boyfriend heard the sound of the door opening too.

It made me extremely frightened.

Other frightening little incidents:

1. On the way to Hualien, the boss kept badmouthing the other employees to me,

saying things like....one of the current employees is very slick,

and that he was afraid she would ostracize me, hoping I wouldn’t interact with her.

He also said he wanted to fire that employee as soon as possible.

But after I arrived there, I found that I was not ostracized or treated unfairly at all! In fact, they took care of me constantly.

I also discovered that many of the things the boss said to smear the current employees were not true.

2. The boss kept telling me that Indigenous people are crude and stupid, and that he can’t understand what they’re saying,

and that they don’t know how to arrange their work properly, which makes them very tired.

But later, when I discussed marketing strategies with the boss, I realized that he was actually just a spoiled rich kid who knew nothing.

He is truly extremely discriminatory toward Indigenous people!

I have some Indigenous ancestry, so hearing these words was really uncomfortable....

And even if I didn’t have Indigenous ancestry, he still shouldn’t say such disrespectful things!

3. The guesthouse keeps three dogs, but the boss does absolutely nothing to take care of them!

I absolutely love animals.

After learning that the boss treated those dogs cruelly,

I really felt sorry for the three of them....

They can eat only one meal a day, are permanently tied up next to the doghouse, nobody takes them for walks, they spend typhoon days outside in the mud, and when the boss has nothing to do, he would rather scroll on his phone than play with them...etc.

I hope someone who loves dogs can go rescue those three poor dogs...

4. A few days before I resigned, one employee was forced to quit by the boss.

This boss doesn’t directly tell employees to resign.

He deliberately makes things difficult so that employees will want to quit!

That employee was the one the boss kept saying on the train was slick and would ostracize me.

This confirmed that the boss had done it deliberately.

5. I helped the boss create a fan page for the guesthouse.

All the content I was going to post was listed in a spreadsheet.

I hoped he would review the post content before I uploaded it.

But he didn’t look at it at all and simply said it was okay.

A few days later, he scolded me, asking why I had written that we were the best guesthouse in Hualien 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 and told me to change the post!

6. The boss himself said there was a bonus system,

but he secretly changed all the contact information to his own!

He changed all the Line contact details on the official website to his own,

and then told the employees that guests he handled could not be counted toward the bonuses.

I think the bonus is a minor issue.

The real problem is that he took guests without telling us,

and we only found out those guests existed when they called to ask questions!!!!!

Moreover, during the six days I was there, the same problem happened four or five times.

What if the place had been fully booked..?

This is a guesthouse with many problems: it disrespects people, mistreats dogs, the employees get along well but the boss drives wedges between them, and there is a possibility of sexual harassment...among other issues.
