Cloud Application Server Sales Specialist/Administrator - J1466

The professionalism and thoughtfulness of the interview made for a very rare and funny experience. I’m sharing the entire interview below.

I dreamed I was at BU9 Servers, I guess~ A high-level interview with Ah-Hong Chen (Wu-Yue-Tian Ah-Xin has no side job, 35–40 years old, dark complexion, 175–180 cm tall, eyesight 2.0 in both eyes), for everyone’s reference and learning. SMAX gogogo

(1) Tell me what you did before!

***I spent five minutes at the beginning introducing my previous work experience and responsibilities. Ah-Hong then asked the second question...

(2) Why did you leave your previous company? I don’t understand! Wasn’t XX Company good?

Answer: Because collaboration and rapport within my previous team had reached their limit in the later stage, I felt it was time to change environments and take on a new challenge as part of my career planning. Two years in my previous position was sufficient, and I felt I had done right by myself and the team.

Ah-Hong: I don’t understand! I think two years isn’t enough! I don’t understand!

No matter how I explained or gave examples... Ah-Hong just kept endlessly repeating, “I don’t understand.”

(3) Draw one of the diagrams from Intel’s roadmap for me!

Answer: In the past, I would review Intel’s roadmap to gather information, but to be honest, I can’t draw the item you’re referring to. I really haven’t worked with that before. I’m sorry.

Ah-Hong: You can’t draw it? Every company’s PM can do that, right? I’ve done the PM work you did too! How am I supposed to continue this interview?

Answer: To be honest, drawing this diagram was not part of the division of responsibilities in my previous role. Perhaps PM responsibilities are divided somewhat differently at each company.

Ah-Hong: PMs are all the same! I’ve done the PM work you did too!

Answer: PM job descriptions are largely similar, but the teams at different companies should still have some differences.

Ah-Hong: Forget it! I don’t want to argue with you about this anymore! (shaking his head and looking into the distance)

***The position applied for was a “sales” role, and Ah-Hong clearly didn’t understand the situation.

(4) If you don’t explain why you left your previous company, I don’t know your personality traits, and I don’t know how to continue the interview!

Answer: I gave you quite a few examples and explanations during the five minutes just now. My answer is exactly what I just described. May I ask whether we can discuss some questions about this position at Quanta now?

Ah-Hong: No, because I don’t know how to continue asking questions!

(5) Which other companies are you currently interviewing with?

Answer: I’m also interviewing for similar companies and positions. Sorry, but I’d prefer to withhold the specific company names for now.

Ah-Hong: I don’t understand! What do you mean, withhold? I don’t know how to continue the interview!

Answer: I don’t think that has much to do with this position at Quanta, does it?

Ah-Hong: Of course it does! I think it’s related!

(6) I really don’t know how to continue this interview. I feel that your personality traits aren’t suitable for our company!

Answer: Sorry, may I ask which traits are unsuitable? I’d be interested to hear more. Could you explain a little?

Ah-Hong: Your personality traits aren’t suitable for our company... That concludes today’s interview!

(Preparing to get up and leave)

Question: May I ask a few questions about the position?

Ah-Hong: Oh!

Question: May I ask whether the responsibilities for this sales position are divided by customer or by product line?

Ah-Hong: Oh, both... That concludes today’s interview!

Question: Are you in a hurry? I still have some questions about the position I’d like to ask!

Ah-Hong: No, I’m not in a hurry! Okay, that’s it for today!

(He then picked up the laptop he had been staring at for ages, walked quickly toward the meeting-room door without looking back, and left in a huff~)

Twenty minutes, just like that~ Overall, it was a very relaxed and enjoyable interview experience. Those with aspirations can go talk with Chairman Hong!
