As a part-time employee, it was a little difficult to think of any advantages. I suppose I was fortunate that the full-time colleagues and the class supervisor I worked with were easy to get along with, so work was fairly pleasant. Whenever there was a lot to do, everyone helped each other.

1. The company makes a great deal of money, but the classroom equipment and tools provided for employees are absolutely terrible and incredibly stingy—everything is done on a shoestring. Sometimes they cannot even buy something very basic.

2. Without passing an exam, the minimum starting salary is a pitiful NT$23,000, and turnover is high. The people who can stay for a long time usually seem to be those who strongly identify with the China Youth Corps and have a spirit of sacrificing and devoting themselves to the organization. But when ordinary people are paid so little, how could they have the time to put up with all that nonsense? In short, unless you are that kind of person, I think the sooner you get out of that environment, the better.

3. There are many miscellaneous duties, but basically it is a cycle of repeatedly doing the same things. Once you have learned everything and become familiar with the work, it is actually quite dull and tedious. The work is very busy, but you do not learn anything. Also, because there is front-desk customer service, the customers here are often quite unpleasant, so dealing with them is exhausting both mentally and physically.

4. Never mind that they keep changing the uniforms—they are also extremely ugly. I do not know whether they have changed them three times already; it is really annoying.

5. The supervisor is two-faced, autocratic, arrogant, likes to twist right and wrong, spread gossip, and fabricate things. They are overly subjective and judge everything entirely according to their own perspective. There is an after-hours responsibility requirement, and employees are forced to accommodate unreasonable shift arrangements. But if you get sick, you still cannot ask for leave at short notice, because it would cause the supervisor to work overtime, and then you would be in serious trouble.

6. If you work here, just be a good, obedient employee, because if you object to anything, the supervisor will remember you. Usually you will not actually be disciplined or anything, but false rumors—embellished with all sorts of exaggerations—will be spread about you everywhere. Since the China Youth Corps operates nationwide, this is only the situation at a unit in one county/city; I do not know about other places.
