In the Systems Integration X department, I was lucky enough to have a good manager. They were kind and even-tempered, and offered flexible hours.
(It’s a shame that, damn it, they’ve already been squeezed dry and are leaving.)
Project planning is only nominal; there are a bunch of senior managers who will not participate in projects.
Exploitation is only directed at junior engineers, while senior technical staff can simply refuse to work,
as well as teams that are easy to bully. In the end, you naturally won’t be on the list for a raise.
Your salary is decided in a single negotiation, so if you want it, negotiate for at least 50,000–60,000 or more. (There are no annual raises; you’ll typically get one only every 2–4 years.)
They can’t retain talent (this place can only be used as a stepping stone).
They don’t provide appropriate rewards, so it’s not suitable for staying long-term. (Eventually you’ll lose your motivation, unless you’re just here to coast until retirement.)
Other than staying until retirement and treating it as a place to coast (e.g., if you’re 40 or 50, you can relax and take it easy; just finish your work),
the atmosphere is mostly tense (it’s only about work, not personal interest).
