The environment seems okay, I guess.

I initially received a notification to report for work, saying that after the documents had been reviewed, they would send another email or call to notify me, and that I should report the following Monday. (I asked HR what to bring and what time to report, but they answered that they weren’t sure, which was a bit puzzling.)

After waiting two days without hearing anything, I called to ask. The response was: “The documents are held up, along with the staff downsizing and other issues, so she wasn’t sure whether this position was still accepting applicants.” We kept going around in circles, so I eventually asked directly, “So this position is no longer available, right?” Only then did she reply, “That’s right. Sorry.”

From now on, there must be an official written notice for it to count as a genuine job offer; verbal assurances don’t count. Everyone should also pay closer attention and make sure to confirm.
