The interviewer treated me to MOS Burger black tea (but interviewing at MOS Burger was genuinely odd).
I interviewed for the editorial outsourcing department. It essentially takes on internal publications for government agencies or businesses and has nothing to do with Business Today itself. Here’s some information to save future applicants time:
The job description on the job bank only briefly says “editorial, planning, and related tasks,” but after the actual interview, they told me the role would involve everything from proposals and planning to editing, coordinating with writers and graphic designers, serving clients, and finally printing. If a writer’s draft wasn’t up to standard, I would also have to conduct interviews myself, and occasionally travel out of town and stay overnight.
I don’t really understand why a major publication like Business Today would be so secretive even when posting a job opening. When it came time to discuss the salary range, they also failed to give a direct answer, saying only that they would contact me later. Given the generally exploitative conditions in the media industry, this kind of job probably requires sleeping at the office every day without receiving reasonably commensurate compensation.
