1. You’re guaranteed to pass the interview.
2. The work is simple and easy to pick up (which does not mean you’ll meet the company’s required speed).
3. They sometimes buy drinks for the staff (I worked there for one month during winter break and was treated once).
1. No labor or health insurance.
2. Part-time wages are calculated as a monthly salary, and the hourly rate is far below the statutory NT$140/hour (roughly just over NT$100).
3. Part-time workers have the same workload as full-time employees, but their pay is not issued on the same day; you have to wait until they finish shipping out their goods.
4. The time clock is always 5–10 minutes ahead of the standard time. You cannot be late, but you will absolutely never get off work on time.
5. The work environment is extremely cramped. A prison has more room to move around than this place; in the most extreme conditions, you have only two tiles’ worth of space to move around, yet your efficiency still cannot drop.
6. When your efficiency does not meet the company’s requirements, there is a certain chance that the boss’s wife (primarily) or the boss will come over and stare at you for more than five minutes to see what your problem is. The boss’s wife also makes unscheduled rounds and hands out work orders.
7. You must work overtime on Saturdays, although you can request leave (it is unclear how many times you can do so). Once you reach a certain level of work, the evening-overtime “instance mode” unlocks, but the overtime pay you receive absolutely does not comply with statutory requirements—it is simply your hourly wage.
***********IMPORTANT********* When applying, they will not tell you the hourly wage, labor and health insurance, or other money-related matters. You have to ask on your first day of work, but apparently you cannot fully trust what they say. For example, payday is said to be the 10th, but on the 10th only full-time employees get paid.
Advice from a newbie part-timer: don’t take on this job:
1. The boss’s wife is very skilled with words. She can make the job sound extremely well-benefited, and she can also make your value sound completely worthless.
2. There is a certain chance that the boss’s wife will make your life miserable, and then the senior workers will pile on and verbally tear you apart.
