The company had no place for interviews, so I went to a nearby café and had a free cup of coffee.
The interviewer had a very flippant attitude. The job bank listing advertised positions for a business manager, Japanese translator, and business assistant, but in reality, they were only hiring one person. This was the Taiwan branch of a Japanese company, and the branch had only one Japanese manager and four designers. I applied for the business assistant position. During the interview, they said I would first follow and learn from the Japanese manager, and that later, even after he returned to Japan, they hoped this person could manage the Taiwan branch and develop new clients. However, it was only during the interview that they mentioned the position would also involve accounting work, which made me feel deceived.
The company mainly designs game characters and 3D graphics. They also said that the Japanese headquarters could produce apps and websites. Since they had no clients in Taiwan, they needed someone to find clients from scratch. It felt somewhat unrealistic, as though they were making grand promises. In the end, they also asked me to come up with a proposal that could help the company make money, in any industry. After the interview, I looked up the company’s registered capital and was shocked to find that it was only NT$500,000. I felt that there were serious problems with the company, so before they notified me that I had been hired, I told them that I had already found another job.
Also, during the interview, the interviewer actually told me directly that he had no interest in games whatsoever. He also said that the most important thing about joining the company was not professional knowledge, but being able to come up with proposals to help the company make money. After hearing that, I found it extremely unacceptable.
I advise anyone considering interviewing with this company not to waste their time. What they are looking for is a highly skilled jack-of-all-trades to serve as a scapegoat!
