The boss is very good at saying nice things and telling stories.
I worked at Toast Forest, but I couldn't find this company's name at first. Later I found out that it was a restaurant opened by a marketing company, which explains why they advertise so heavily.
Although there isn't much to ask for when working at a brunch restaurant, the following points were really unbearable for me…
1. Low pay.
2. No overtime pay!!!!!!!
3. Meetings held during off-hours. (There was still no overtime pay; the boss would call meetings whenever they felt like it.)
4. You couldn't arrange your own days off.
5. You had to make deliveries using your own scooter, with no fuel allowance.
6. You had to hand out flyers during promotional events.
7. They said there was a 30-minute break to eat, but it often turned into working as usual. (They would say they were very busy and ask you to help.)
I was extremely dissatisfied with the lack of overtime pay, because you were certain to work overtime, and each bout of overtime started at one hour or more. It really added up - -
Also, when making deliveries by scooter, you had to use your own fuel and scooter. The company explicitly said it would not pay for your fuel. They would also say that you could use the company's scooter for deliveries, but the company scooter was extremely bad—an old model that would stall and had faulty brakes. The company was unwilling to repair it, and the boss would not ride that scooter either (lol), so you had to choose between saving money and your life.
Sometimes, even after your shift had ended, you still had to help deliver things to other branches, or stay behind for a meeting if the boss wanted to hold one. You basically had no time of your own…
Also, because it was a brunch restaurant, the pay was actually about the same as at an ordinary breakfast shop. But! Breakfast shops finish for the day at noon, whereas this place was still open into the evening!! It was quite possible to accidentally end up working overtime until very late, so the lack of overtime pay was truly terrible.
