Pros

The company has been newly renovated.

Cons

01. The employee turnover is extremely high—on average, one person leaves every month—so the working environment is highly unstable.

02. The boss very much enjoys harassing female employees. At first, he repeatedly sends overly “friendly” messages, followed later by intentional or seemingly accidental physical contact. After comparing notes with many affected employees, we identified his standard line: “I treat you better than anyone else in the company. Don’t tell anyone.”

03. He likes hiring female employees with no relevant experience. On the surface, he says he wants the magazine to embrace a diverse, cross-disciplinary concept, but in reality he is simply choosing people as if selecting concubines. Oh, and there’s more! People with no experience are easier to deceive.

04. Following from the previous point, when you join, there will be no experienced staff to train you. The boss also knows nothing and does not understand even basic editorial work. Even if there is an experienced employee, believe me, they are already looking at job listings on 104.

05. The editorial department provides neither overtime pay nor compensatory time off. The boss says this is the “height” of being a media professional, while he himself leaves before 6 p.m.

06. When an editor resigns, the company tries not to fill the vacancy, making you work yourself to death. Working overtime until the early hours of the morning is routine.

07. After work, you are often called to the boss’s drinking gatherings. Put nicely, it is to help you expand your network; put bluntly, you are there to pour drinks.

08. There is no reward for achievements, and every mistake is punished. Whenever someone says something good about the magazine, he posts it on Facebook to show how broad-minded he is, but he never tells employees “good job” or “thank you for your hard work.” If you make a mistake, watch out for being sued by the boss.

09. You have to endure his constant claims that he is a genius (he genuinely believes it).

10. He will pressure you to add him on Facebook and become one of his die-hard fans (if you do not like his posts, he will remember it).

11. He has very little respect for professional expertise, and employees must take on multiple roles. The art staff also have to handle photography, while editors must also do marketing and sales.

12. He is very friendly to newly hired employees. Later, you will learn what “time reveals a person’s true nature” means.

13. Whatever prospects they offer you are all bullshit.

14. Even after ten years in business, the company still has virtually no systems—or rather, everything keeps changing according to the boss’s mood.

15. There are many meaningless meetings that waste everyone’s time, held solely to fill the boss’s idle hours.

16. The boss is a perfect embodiment of “a man who has nothing but a mouth”: he has no concrete achievements whatsoever.

17. The company is extremely poor at handling crises. It cares only about saving face, not solving the problem, and the result is a complete mess.

18. The female supervisor (vice president) is somewhat more capable than the boss, but she does not understand how the world works. For example, she will demand that employees do things that are clearly impossible. She is quite willful.

19. The entire company is the textbook example of “fine jade on the outside, rotten cotton within,” with absurdity added on top.

20. Don’t joke around with your career.

P.S. Youth is not meant to be wasted here.
