Pros

Pros

13 months of guaranteed annual salary

Being one minute late only results in a deduction equivalent to one minute's pay

Lunch is fairly decent; at least you can eat your fill

No need to wear a uniform

Overtime can be claimed and reimbursed based on actual expenses

Cons

Cons

1. Even though it is an American company, the fact that the boss is still a traditional Taiwanese local affects the organizational culture and atmosphere. In some business groups, you practically have to address senior executives by their titles, so it does not feel like an American company. Instead, there is a sense of bureaucracy and rigidity.

2. Factory mindset: cost cutting. Support-unit staffing is reduced wherever possible, and department managers also regard this as a performance indicator. They do not intend to add staff, so everyone's workload is quite heavy on average. Simply put, it exploits frontline workers.

3. The work lacks structure. From new-employee training to job responsibilities, there are no written reference documents or mentor system. If this were a startup, I would have no objection, but this is a large company with enormous output.

4. Following from point 2, because reducing costs is the ultimate goal, do not expect department managers to spend money buying tools—whether software or hardware—for employees to use.

5. There is no system for delegating authority, and lower- and mid-level managers often have no decision-making power at all. Work progress often needs to be reported up three or four levels, and if someone along the way does not like your output, you have to start all over again. Very inefficient.

6. Horizontal communication between departments is poor, and the same is true between business groups. If you need to work across departments, you will often feel extremely frustrated.

Personal thoughts: It is very easy to feel lost here. The workload is not necessarily huge, but the frustration at work is severe. The salary is not much higher than at other companies in Taichung. If your abilities allow it, rather than coming here, you would be better off pursuing opportunities in the Central Taiwan Science Park.

Conclusion: Do not come here unless you have a reason to.
