They promise bonuses but provide none, promise salary increases but provide none, promise promotions but provide none, and promise training but provide none. They keep painting grand pictures to get you to work proactively, but it is all a lie. They also lie when they say the company has many opportunities for overseas assignments. The company in Taiwan is relatively fine, but the company in Hong Kong is like a rat’s nest—small and dirty. Everyone smokes in the office, and the environment is terrible. The company only says that since we are a Hong Kong company, we should work with a Hong Kong attitude, yet they do not offer Hong Kong salaries. Every senior manager in the company only knows how to talk and does not actually do anything. Five people talk while only one person actually works. They only keep chasing progress, but when you ask when the bonus will be available, there is never a deadline. All the promised benefits are supposedly available only in the future. In addition, the company’s senior management seriously discriminates against Taiwanese people and favors Hong Kong people. They look for opportunities to deduct money from you every so often; they even deduct money if you do not use the company’s products. More than half of the operating systems used by the company are pirated, and all kinds of software, including Office, are pirated. If you want to use something, you have to buy it yourself; the company will not pay for it. They even treat the office as a zoo, allowing customers to casually view confidential information. The boss appears very generous, but as long as you are Taiwanese, you have absolutely no opportunities. You should count yourself lucky if they toss you an orange or a carrot (they really did buy a huge pile of strange, ugly oranges to hand out at the company)! They will offer you a very low salary and then deceive you by boasting about how profitable the company is and how much business it has. But the company offers no bonuses, health checkups, holiday gifts, birthday cash gifts, employee trips, year-end banquets or spring dinners, or red envelopes for the start of work after the New Year—none of these benefits exist. Do not let them fool you. The company especially likes to recruit inexperienced fresh graduates to exploit them, pretending that it wants to nurture them, but coming here is merely a waste of time helping them do odd jobs. You will not learn anything. Even if you do learn something, it will only be skills that are completely useless outside. It is a complete waste of time. I strongly recommend not coming here to waste your youth, unless you are looking for a place to coast until retirement or have a Hong Kong identity card.
