Guiding many guests from different places in an environment filled with orchids
Applied for a tour guide position, but in the end had to also clean toilets and take out the trash, maintain and sell cosmetics, handle the front desk and switchboard, water plants, and feed the ducks. The training system was poor, with no written materials: after a brief verbal introduction to the orchids, new hires were expected to start guiding visitors the next day, and had to look up anything they didn’t know online. Part-time workers were not covered by labor or health insurance, and overtime was paid only at the regular hourly rate. Work schedules were often notified via LINE only the night before. Tour buses were overbooked, and tourists were semi-coercively urged into a conference room for sales presentations. It was a tourist factory focused solely on selling products, with poor visitor experience and company culture.
