HR and supervisors are very good at painting rosy pictures, promising everything upfront and deceiving people into joining first.
The company’s organization is chaotic, with supervisors each acting independently. No one accepts anyone else, and they undermine one another. Sometimes, supervisors even sabotage their own subordinates. The sales staff do not go out to solicit orders; they just wait for phone calls at the company. The maintenance supervisor only cares about currying favor with the boss and does not care about subordinates’ well-being. Although the company is in Xinzhuang, it requires employees who are already away on business trips in Taitung to leave Taitung at 5 p.m. and take an overnight bus or train back to the company.
They also make reckless promises that they cannot fulfill. After working there for three years, they did not want to continue employing me but would not say so directly. They created a written report defaming an employee in an attempt to force the employee to resign. Unfortunately for them, it did not work, so after the Lunar New Year they pulled another stunt by cutting salaries.
It is obvious that they want to drive people out but do not want to pay severance. Labor pension contributions are not made according to the Labor Standards Act, and overtime pay also does not comply with the law. Of course, you can also forget about receiving a full month’s year-end bonus; most years, they give half a month’s salary or a red envelope. The bonuses for the three major holidays are a scam—it all depends on whether the boss feels like giving them out. Once, on the day before the Mid-Autumn Festival, each employee received only one egg tart left over from an offering ritual.
When I joined, I hoped for a salary of NT$36,000, but the company said that the basic salary would be NT$20,000 for the first two months and would be adjusted after three months. Unexpectedly, they deliberately delayed the adjustment until six months later, and then only raised it to NT$23,000, intentionally keeping overtime pay low. Naturally, they also manipulated the calculations for labor and health insurance and labor pension contributions by using the basic salary as the basis.
A company with no benefits and such internal chaos naturally cannot even retain foreign workers—three of them left.
A boss who knows how to make money does not scheme against employees; instead, they focus their energy on growing the business.
A supervisor who knows how to lead people should understand how to win their hearts, rather than making empty promises and deceiving people first. They have no credibility whatsoever in either their words or actions, and never have to take responsibility for anything they say.
The company’s sales function is essentially nonexistent. They do not make any effort to solicit orders, and having more staff is useless—they only pressure people about delivery deadlines. Are they sales staff or production control? It is impossible to tell.
In summary: This is a company with no benefits, no prospects, no hope, no credibility, and an unfriendly attitude toward new employees. Unless you have no idea what you are doing, do not get on this pirate ship.
