Cons

Translated into Chinese, the name of this company is “Ni Hao Ma” (“How are you?”). The position I applied for at the time was Senior Golang Backend R&D Engineer,

and they also had other openings: PHP, Android, iOS, React...

Everything in this company’s description is a lie,

including the claim that your salary is automatically increased by 10,000 in the third month, double pay at the end of the year, and 15 days of leave after six months.

None of it is true.

Even the official website is a lie.

The CEO, CTO, and everyone else listed there are fake; the pictures were randomly taken from elsewhere, and the names were randomly invented.

The “working environment” is even more of a lie. But when you video-call them, they will definitely say:

“The new office is under construction. Once it’s finished, it will look like this.”

To put it bluntly, the group’s building will not be completed for more than six years. They have not even finished laying the foundation yet.

Their so-called new office is simply a seven-story brick building with no elevator, built next to a pile of ruins.

The swimming pool, basketball court, and everything else they wrote about are fake.

The basketball court has already become a dirt lot, and all the hoops are broken. We jokingly call the swimming pool a septic tank.

It is utterly disgusting...

And you do not even have time to use them....

In short, everything is fake. The only thing that is real in Sihanoukville, Cambodia, is the four meals a day.

Now let me explain why I had to run.

If the salary were genuinely high, the environment were merely poor, and at least you could save money without having to spend money on food,

Because, as I mentioned in my previous post, they are constantly looking for excuses to cause trouble and deduct money from you. Managing them is like managing a group of animals.

Yes, to Ni Hao Ma, so-called engineers are animals.

Your salary will absolutely not be paid on time, and even when it is paid, you will receive much less because of various excuses such as exchange rates.

For example, they told me that NT$120,000 would be converted into U.S. dollar cash using the exchange rate on payday.

With the New Taiwan dollar so strong at the time, I should have received 41–42 one-hundred-dollar bills. But in reality, I received 32...

That is a loss of tens of thousands. When you raise the issue with them, they put on that deadpan expression, as if to say, “I’ve got you. What can you do about it?”

Fine. Even if we take a step back, you can still get your salary, although it is not paid according to what was verbally promised.

Why do I say it was only verbal? Because, as I mentioned in my previous post, there is no contract here...

You can get your salary, but the most frightening thing here is the kind of management based on “rule by people.”

As I mentioned in my previous post, two people left just after I joined:

one at the PHP supervisor level, and one Golang engineer.

Before I logged out, one operations and maintenance employee had left, while one frontend employee and one reverse-engineering employee had been fired.

_

Why?

Because Ni Hao Ma decides that you are no longer useful. Just two days earlier, they can hold a company-wide meeting and say:

“Our company will absolutely never fire anyone, and we will absolutely never owe salaries or underpay anyone,” blablabla.

Everything they say at these meetings is always about how wonderful the future will be and how they will never do this or that.

But a few days later, they can fire people who are “useless” to them.

Define “useless”:

You do not suck up, flatter, or curry favor.

You have previously pointed out that a schedule was problematic, or something similar.

In short, it is the Communist Party’s way: if you express anti-party opinions, you exclude yourself from the people.

And who are “the people”? The few bosses at Ni Hao Ma.

That is also what I mentioned in my previous post:

“Finish a chatbot prototype within three days.”

“Reverse-engineer WeChat Pay and unpack it within three days.”

“Refactor the calculation for the lottery draw within three days.”

“Give me.....etc....”

As long as you have ever expressed dissatisfaction, you are a useless person.

They manage the company through rule by people, not rule of law. There are no rules, standards, or regulations.

They manage the company through rule by people, not rule of law. There are no rules, standards, or regulations.

Everything depends entirely on their own feelings and impressions. It is disgusting...

You might wonder: a company this outrageous—are the group’s investors idiots?

This is the third reason why I had to run.

The investors are almost out of patience. They have been working on an online lottery for nearly a year,

and it still has not launched. Everyone who joined later has been working on refactoring the lottery system and fixing bugs.

The turnover is high, the deadlines are tight, and those who joined later have no way to understand and complete the existing work. It is a vicious cycle...

The livestreaming service and travel app that the 104 job website says they plan to develop will never even get started.

So I can expect that this thing still will not be finished by the Dragon Boat Festival this year.

The possibility that the investors will withdraw their funding is extremely high...

When that happens, everyone will be told to get lost...
