世大照明股份有限公司
Pros

Easy to park motorcycles

Not much overtime (but there is no overtime pay; a NT$100 late-meal allowance is provided after 7 p.m.)

Relatively stable

There is a rice cooker available for steaming packed lunches

Cons

The company overall

1. It has the common problems of a family-owned business.

2. Relationships between departments are unequal (some departments have favored insiders who can pass a lot of work on to other departments).

3. The salary system is confusing: two months’ salary is paid in three separate installments, and the payment date for the third installment is not fixed, so you need to calculate the total salary yourself.

4. You cannot turn on the air conditioning freely; doing so will attract attention.

Design department

1. ID and RD are combined (basically, there is little room for ID work; usually, models are created by directly referencing mechanical structures or other people’s products).

2. Extremely high turnover: during my tenure, the design department had about 10 people, and an average of six left within a year.

3. Compared with other departments, the design department is in a very weak position and has to handle a lot of work that falls within other departments’ responsibilities.

4. Ten people share one restroom.

5. Department trash must be taken out on a rotating basis.

6. People generally do not get up and talk during work; it is relatively quiet and dull.

7. There is a branch in Zhuhai, but some colleagues are difficult to coordinate with. Projects require repeated reminders before they will help move them forward.

Reasons for leaving

1. Confusing salary system

2. The supervisor was unable to shield the team from incoming tasks, resulting in other departments piling work onto us.

3. Coordinating with colleagues in Zhuhai was exhausting; every day, they had to be called and urged repeatedly before taking action.
