Pros

No exam required

Cons

Generally speaking, engineering positions in technical fields require an exam, but this company doesn’t. At first, I thought that was a benefit—until I heard about working four days and taking three days off (12 hours a day, and unbelievably, only 0.5 hours are counted as overtime), followed by some nonsense about 40 hours per week being divided across those four days, with any extra time reported separately as overtime... Do they think the people interviewing have poor math skills, or do they think we’re stupid?

In short, after adding up all the chaos, the night-shift pay is NT$33,000 and the day-shift pay is NT$28,000. They’ve actually offered southern Taiwan salary levels in the greater Taipei area. All I can say is: unbelievable!

And that’s without even mentioning the possibility of overtime. Did I somehow travel through time? Have the working conditions for assistant engineers in Taipei really fallen this low?!
