Graphic design is divided into positions with and without supervisors.
Positions without a supervisor have higher pay and greater freedom. There is also less miscellaneous work, although all designs still have to be reviewed by the boss/boss’s wife.
There is a meal allowance for working through mealtimes.
There are overseas company trips.
It is easy to take leave at short notice; a phone call is enough for a colleague to pass on the message.
Design positions with a supervisor are basically business assistant roles.
You have to prepare designs as well as perform secretarial work.
Your ideas are easily interfered with.
Sometimes they even give you ugly designs and ask you to use them as references.
In reality, you are simply expected to copy them.
Everyone above the supervisor level is very conceited.
They rely on their many years of experience in the graduation album industry,
yet fail to consider that every year brings new students and new clients.
Other objective drawbacks:
Salary: Cannot exceed NT$30,000; some of the salary is paid in cash to evade taxes.
Labor and health insurance: Both are provided, but the reported salary is lower than the actual salary.
Overtime pay: A fixed hourly rate; the first half hour after the end of working hours does not count as overtime.
