駿明交通運輸股份有限公司
Pros

1. The company is full of human warmth, and the senior colleagues are highly capable and look after the junior employees.

2. The company is a subsidiary of Yang Ming Marine Transport, so there is guaranteed work every day.

3. It is a large company with established systems, and there are bonuses for the three major holidays as well as year-end bonuses.

4. The company has transfer and ship-side operations. New employees first learn in ship-side operations; those who want to transfer to the transfer operations can register and wait for notification.

5. The company’s employee turnover rate is not high.

Cons

1. Transfer operations follow a one-day work, one-day rest schedule.

2. Ship-side operations use 12-hour shifts.

3. Pay is based on the number of trips: you get paid when you work.

4. Ship-side vehicles sometimes have to support transfer operations, and the working hours sometimes exceed 12 hours.

5. Work sometimes runs overtime, with no additional overtime pay. (The payslip lists overtime pay, but this is merely a few percent taken from the container fees and placed in the overtime-pay column. In substance, there is no overtime pay; it is only for accounting purposes.)

5. The company’s wages are relatively low and cannot be compared with those outside the company. The main reason is that the work is very straightforward. If a traffic accident occurs, the company will step in to handle it, so employees are protected.

6. Because of its connection with the Yang Ming group, outsiders generally think the pay is very good. In fact, it is on the low side. Don’t fantasize that you will get rich by joining; those with families can only make enough to get by.

7. Work orders are scheduled for 00:01, but after reporting for work, the actual start time is 06:00. Waiting for the ship is considered unpaid charitable work. (There used to be hourly pay for this, but it was eliminated.)

8. Pay attention to the issue of cargo owners overloading containers. If you fail to notice it and report it as a driver’s problem, you will have to bear the consequences yourself.

9. The tractor units are almost all fourth-generation models. They have many problems and often need repairs. The company has its own maintenance facility, but only two technicians, so there is often a queue for repairs. Repairs can take from morning until afternoon because, to save costs, vehicles cannot be sent to the manufacturer’s authorized service center.

10. In the transportation industry, the Labor Standards Act is merely for reference. If you enter the transportation industry, you must be mentally prepared.
