Pros

The colleagues are nice, and labor and health insurance are handled properly—is that considered a pro?

Cons

Labor and health insurance contributions are underreported. Only the bread department’s office staff get a break; everyone else does not get a lunch break. The turnover rate is very high. Apprentices, store staff, and logistics staff change in groups every few months. Salaries are rarely adjusted. Some departments require you to handle several positions at once, and they really don’t want you to have any downtime. Starting in the morning, they monitor you via surveillance cameras; sometimes, if you take a one- or two-minute break, they even call and ask what you’re doing. The manager is extremely good at talking nonsense and making wildly unrealistic plans, and also likes to deduct money arbitrarily. They were previously reported to the Labor Bureau for improper deductions. The end time is also very inconsistent. Only hourly employees have normal schedules. Because the full-time staff turnover is so high that they cannot recruit enough people, they have switched to hiring hourly workers. Among the hourly store employees, about two or three people leave each month. After the store’s closing time, counting the remaining goods is unpaid, costing you roughly 30–40 minutes every day. The agreed-upon finishing time is not reliable; sometimes they ask you to leave early. When training newcomers, there is sometimes no SOP. If you’re lucky, they’ll train you for a few days; sometimes they ask you to work independently after only two or three days. I’ve heard of newcomers being made to count inventory after closing until they cried—truly bizarre. Overall, they do things very arbitrarily. Sometimes they suddenly come up with wild ideas and randomly change the procedures. There are hardly any long-term employees, and they recruit every month, so you can see new colleagues every month. That’s also kind of a good thing!
