The front desk staff were very friendly
It was an in-person interview
I spent time and money preparing for an interview, only to leave less than 10 minutes after arriving, simply because I am not Taiwanese.
From the initial application to the phone call informing me about the interview, I had specifically stated that I was not Taiwanese.
During the interview, I also mentioned my status during the self-introduction, and then...
Interviewer: So you don't have a Taiwanese national ID card?
Me: That's right, but I'm a student, so I have an Alien Resident Certificate and can convert it to a work-based residence permit.
Interviewer: We don't help people apply for those things here.
Me: Oh! That's okay. I can handle the procedures myself; I just need the company's approval, since the application documents require the company's business documents. (I thought it was possible to apply, but that they simply didn't want to deal with the procedures.)
Interviewer: No! We don't have the time or energy to do these things. These procedures require going to many departments, and involve a lot of time and paperwork. (In short, they don't have the time and aren't willing to apply.)
Me: Okay, I'm sorry then. Thank you! (By this point, I was already quite dumbfounded.)
Interviewer: We'll see whether we need to hire foreigners in the future. If we do, we'll contact you again!
Me: Okay, thank you! (Fuming with anger.)
This company, and even the interviewer, made me feel that they were extremely unprofessional. If they had stated from the beginning that they would not hire foreign nationals or apply for work permits for foreigners, then why didn't they make that clear before the interview!!! Why wait until the person has arrived—even after the interview has started—before saying that they don't meet the qualifications and asking them to leave! This is truly outrageous!
