Pros

You can practice operating the machine and print your own designs.

Cons

Although the job title is Graphic Arts Editor, the main responsibility is actually to use the company’s large-format digital printing machine to print on flat materials such as wooden boards and glass supplied by customers and vendors.

The aspects truly related to graphic design involve arranging the layouts according to the dimensions and images they provide (and sometimes helping them find images).

The key issue is that there are quite a lot of procedures involved in both operating and maintaining the digital printing machine. The slightest carelessness during operation can damage the machine’s components or even the entire machine.

There are also considerable risks involved in printing. If the finished product has even a minor issue (such as scratches, misalignment, areas that were not printed properly, or an excessively rough surface), it may be rejected. If the order is large, you may even have to pay compensation.

(Some of the vendor customers here are very nice, but many are difficult to deal with.)

As for spray paint, primer, white paint, and other coatings, you have to mix them yourself using the various solvents provided by the factory. The smell is genuinely very strong.

You also have to use rosin water to clean the spray gun. With spray painting, even a minor defect can ruin the entire item being printed. If the spray gun is not cleaned thoroughly, it may become clogged.

The entire company currently has only one or two employees. This means that only one person works in the digital printing room, which has no air conditioning.

The work procedures include cleaning the environment; starting up the machine (first starting the printing-room air compressor, turning on the machine, and testing the printing); and, when customers make inquiries, communicating about the production method, deciding whether the order can be accepted, receiving the printing materials from vendors, arranging the print layout, cleaning the surface to be printed, mixing the appropriate amounts of white paint or primer, spray painting, cleaning the spray gun and nozzle, sending the boards to the machine for UV digital printing, and packaging the products after completion.

One person has to handle every single step.

The company says the workload is not heavy: sometimes there is a large amount of work, while other times there is none for the entire day.

However, just these procedures and steps can keep you busy all day without end. If there are urgent add-on orders, it is also possible that you will not be able to finish them on time.

Some vendors are very unprofessional and only ask you to help choose images after they arrive.

The quality of the finished products also depends on how responsive the vendors are.

I decided after working there for only one week that I did not want to continue. The risks are too high.

I strongly recommend not applying.
