Cons

I’m referring to my experience at the Taichung branch of Central Laser Co., Ltd., working for Sun Moon Wire Cutting Co., Ltd.

The pay was daily-wage based, with a starting daily wage of NT$600. Adding the NT$3,000 perfect-attendance bonus and whatever else, it came to exactly NT$22,000...

Although there was a quarterly bonus of NT$18,000 paid once every three months, there was no bonus during the first three-month probationary period.

Taking one day of personal leave deducted NT$1,200 from the perfect-attendance bonus; two days deducted NT$2,400; taking two and a half days meant the entire NT$3,000 bonus was forfeited.

The quarterly bonus was paid to you on the 20th of February, May, August, and November. However, for example, the bonus paid in May was calculated based on January, February, and March.

If you left at the end of May, you effectively lost the quarterly bonuses for April and May, plus the three months of probationary-period bonuses—a total of exactly NT$30,000 (compared with working for another company offering a monthly salary).

If you worked until the end of June, you effectively lost the quarterly bonuses for April, May, and June, plus the three months of probationary-period bonuses—a total of exactly NT$36,000.

If you worked until the end of July, you effectively lost the quarterly bonuses for April, May, June, and July, plus the three months of probationary-period bonuses—a total of exactly NT$42,000.

Each pay raise was NT$500, occurring on average once every two years.

The low base salary is propped up somewhat by the quarterly bonuses, leaving you to work there until retirement. The extremely low base salary means you’ll receive less in monthly retirement benefits....

When there isn’t much work, you’re given unpaid leave; the more leave you take, the more your salary.....

Overtime on ordinary days was not calculated at 1.33 times the rate; it was paid at the regular rate. (I don’t know what the situation is now.)

Holiday overtime was fairly good: NT$3,000 for 12 hours during the day and NT$4,000 for 12 hours at night. (I don’t know what the situation is now.)

There was a pile of complicated minor tasks keeping you busy from start to finish, yet your efforts were taken for granted and went unrecognized.

There are many other details I can’t recall at the moment...

I strongly recommend not coming to this company. If you do, it’s your loss...
