Pros

The hardware and equipment are pretty good. Sales staff are provided with mobile phones and company cars. Sales staff receive a base salary plus commission. Each of the three seasonal bonuses is NT$2,000. The year-end bonus is reportedly one month’s salary, but it depends on the company’s operating situation.

Cons

(Read with caution)

1. Bonuses can only be earned after meeting performance targets, but the shrewd owner’s wife, who handles the accounting, will think of every possible way to reduce the bonuses paid out. For example, she may deliberately delay issuing invoices so that the payments are pushed into the following month, or have the owner say that business is not doing well and everyone needs to share the burden, thereby reducing the bonuses.

2. You often have to work according to the mood of the owner and his wife. One moment, sales staff are told to focus on visiting clients; when they go out, they are accused of slacking off. When they sit in the office, they are accused of lacking initiative. They are completely unpredictable.

3. There is an after-hours “responsibility system.” Even if you finish your work, you cannot leave on time and have to stay along with the sales assistant; otherwise, people will make snide comments about you not working overtime. (I don’t understand what the owner’s point is.)

4. The owner and his wife like to sell their personal belongings to employees, using employees’ pay deductions as the payment method. I don’t know whether they are having cash-flow problems (?).

5. When monthly sales reach NT$1 million, the company uses its profits to hold a group dinner. The food is usually decent, but the owner’s entire family—three generations—shows up at the same time. It is really hard to tell whether this is a family gathering or a company celebration. I would rather see the money turned into bonuses than have my personal time after work taken up by accidentally ending up at this kind of dinner.
