Pros

Data points: 1. Typhoon days are unpaid. 2. Year-end evaluations involve a great deal of fuss; after receiving a large amount of disparagement and insults, the average bonus is only 0.3–0.4, while even high performers receive no more than 0.7. 3. There is no overtime pay, and the company’s attendance system does not have an “overtime” option. 4. Business-trip allowances are stringent. There have been cases of employees being required to travel abroad without prior notice or being notified only the day before. 5. In the past, there was one Saturday each month when employees had to work (nominally for a monthly meeting). This was suspended immediately after the implementation of the “one fixed day off and one flexible day off” policy; no lofty ideals can outweigh the additional personnel costs. 6. The Lunar New Year opening red envelope contains only NT$200. 7. Examples of how compensatory leave was handled last year: In September, a day was originally to be exchanged for flexible compensatory leave, but a typhoon happened to occur, so the company announced only the day before that it would revert to compensatory leave on that date; anyone who had already applied for leave automatically had it changed to personal leave. At the end of the year, two holidays were moved to the Lunar New Year period, while employees who joined after December were compulsorily placed on two days of unpaid leave. (Supplement: Although the monthly meeting is gone, various excuses are used to occupy holiday time: team meetings, department gatherings, company events, mandatory exhibitions, and of course, no compensatory leave.) The above data is provided for reference.
