2013-2-10. First day of the Lunar New Year

My thoughts after working at the Tainan Xigang Jiaxiang Xidian for a little over four months… (2012-8~~~2012-11)

1. Personal leave must be requested at least 3 days in advance. Sick leave requires a doctor’s certificate from a public hospital. In other words, you have to pay a doctor to issue a certificate, costing around NT$100–200. Even if you suddenly have to take a family member to see a doctor, you still need a doctor’s certificate from a public hospital.

2. I did administrative work, so I wore an orange polo shirt. Blue polo shirts were worn by delivery drivers, and red polo shirts were worn by store and night-market staff. Work started at 8:00 a.m. every day. If you had not clocked in by 7:55, you were considered late, meaning you had to request 30 minutes of personal leave. If your scooter or car broke down on the way to work and you could not make it in, you had to provide proof bearing the repair shop’s stamp, and you could only take half a day off.

3. Work started at 8:00 a.m. and ended at 5:00 p.m. every day. Administrative staff needed the supervisor’s approval before leaving, so the earliest you could leave was 6:00 p.m., and the latest was 8:00 p.m.; face12;;nq; Attention!!! No overtime pay is calculated for time beyond working hours!!! Coworkers who get along well with the supervisor only need to tell the supervisor they have something to do, and they can leave immediately. People like me, who are treated as nobodies, are not allowed to leave even after asking.

4. One time, I worked until around 11:00 p.m. The period from 5:00 to 11:00 was overtime, but it was not counted as overtime. Instead, it was converted into compensatory leave. I received 4 hours of compensatory leave, so I did not go to work until noon the next day.

5. There are an extremely large number of surveillance cameras inside the factory. The only times you can evade the cameras are when defecating or masturbating in the restroom. I have no idea why they installed so many cameras?? All I know is that when they want to deduct money, they review the surveillance footage and show you the evidence. There is another reason I’m guessing: they probably fear being set up by employees—ambushes are hard to guard against—so they installed so many cameras.

6. If you work too slowly, the supervisor complains that you are slow. If you work too quickly, he complains that your work is sloppy. Even if you do a good job, he will very creatively nitpick and find fault with you.

7. The supervisor looks down on subordinates terribly. No matter how capable a subordinate is, they still get criticized until they feel rotten. The supervisor is always right.

8. There are already 13 job listings accumulated on the 1111 Job Bank. The position I originally took is still listed, which shows how demanding it is and how high the turnover rate is.
