At 7:26 in the morning, a gentleman called and said he was a professor at Feng Chia and Tunghai, saying, “We’re currently recruiting a marketing manager, and your résumé is a great fit. What’s the earliest you could start? What salary are you looking for?” I said I could only start next month and was looking for NT$38K. He said, “Oh, oh. Basically, I’ve been doing e-commerce in mainland China for several years. Our company is currently taking off rapidly, so basically we need someone who can get up to speed quickly.” I asked, “May I ask what the working hours are?” He said, “Huh? You do e-commerce and you still care about working hours? Basically, you can work either at the company or at home, whatever you prefer.” (I was speechless!!) I said, “But I need time to hand over my current duties.” He said, “Just start on March 1. You can go back to hand things over whenever you need to.” Then, in a tone that made him sound extremely busy, he said, “Okay… shall I schedule a time with you now? Come for an interview this morning, then start work on March 1. Is that okay?” “Okay, it’s settled then. The chairman is right next to me. Great, that’s it.” Then he hung up, completely disregarding whether I agreed.

Ten minutes later, the gentleman called again. “You’re a fellow student at XX University? The chairman and I happen to both be here today.” I thought, forget it—it seemed genuinely difficult for him to arrange a time—so I agreed to go at 5 p.m. He then said, “How about 5:30? That would work better. It’s basically the same as five, so just arrive at 5:30.” I said okay.

But afterward = = there was no phone call or notification. I had taken the afternoon off, and he sent me a message through the job bank saying: “Today’s schedule is too rushed, so I’ve rescheduled you for 4 p.m. Friday.” = = What the heck!!!
