It really depends on the department. I work in the software department, and even after the onboarding period, I still leave the office before 6:30. After factoring in bonuses, the compensation isn’t far off from what the news reports.

For software professionals, the company is quite closed off internally. Open source only makes its way in through various channels, so it’s easy to become disconnected from the outside world.
