Sharing work experience

The company is mainly run according to the boss’s word. Under this emotional management style, you may occasionally be inexplicably scolded; just touch your nose and let it go. When the boss’s wife feels wronged, you need to be able to listen to her complaints. Here, regardless of right or wrong, you can only have a peaceful time if you obey.

The company has three departments in total.

Engineering Department: The supervisor will observe whether you are easy to manage and obedient. If you are new to the workforce with no experience and look like a well-behaved child, he will treat you somewhat better and teach you what he knows, but your progress depends on your own fortune. If something goes wrong, he will help clean up the mess. If it is a major and difficult problem, he may be unable to protect himself, so you would be better off praying for divine help. Recommended for people just entering the workforce who want to get started in this industry.

Sales Department: Reasonable demands are training; unreasonable demands are trials. Whether something is reasonable is for the boss to decide. In short, follow the boss’s instructions. If you cannot find customers, senior colleagues will tell you to go pray at a temple. As long as you can find customers, the boss will like you; if you cannot, the boss will ignore you. Recommended for men who want to temper their willpower.

Back-office Department (female): The boss’s wife has their backs. The company’s culture of favoring women over men is extremely serious. Women can walk all over the company, while male employees have to give them several points of leeway. If there is any disagreement, upper management will definitely call you in for a meeting. Working more than 10 hours is considered normal, and working during lunch breaks is also routine. You do not need to worry about lacking ability; if you cannot finish your tasks, someone will naturally keep an eye on you and make you do them. Strongly recommended for workaholics; those looking to kill time can come here to hone themselves.

Overall evaluation

A traditional Taiwanese exploitative-boss company with an authoritarian system. For job seekers whose poor lifestyle habits need correcting, this company will be very helpful.

Cons

The disadvantages are also the advantages.

Pays on time, that's it!

Cons

Actually, this company isn't the worst. There must be many companies that are even worse—it's the “better than those below you” theory, I guess! Seems like it!

I was there for a while. Looking back, it was quite an adventure. There was this guy who loved drinking; it seemed as though he would die if he didn't drink. Seeing that, I just hoped I wouldn't be unlucky enough to marry someone like that in the future. Marrying someone like this would be too much. This guy was really clueless, leaving people with a very bad impression of him. He also spoke without any filter or sense of propriety. Not having an education really does make a difference—he had no manners. If she were my daughter, I would slap her three times a day and smash her mouth! Seems like it! Hah!

As for that Zuì Dàwěi guy, I won't say much. Other replies in another post tore him apart terribly—more than a hundred of them completely exposed his background. He has no legal or technological background, just a mouth; he bluffs both internally and externally, threatens employees, and a whole bunch of other things. There should be no need to repeat it. I really don't know who was so capable of digging up everything about him. For someone who loves putting on an act as much as he does, I really don't know where he can put his dignity. Continuing to pretend is embarrassing; not continuing to pretend is embarrassing too; even driving a luxury motorhome is embarrassing. I feel embarrassed for him!

Most of the other employees have also left. Only one or two salespeople remain. Although engineers have also been resigning one after another, there are surprisingly still more of them than salespeople. Maybe salespeople are hard to find these days. That makes sense: those with weak abilities stay on, while those who are capable go out and start their own businesses. “A good bird chooses a tree to nest in” really does make sense, and “rotten wood cannot be carved” is also true! Looking at the replies in the other posts, I really feel that many of them are highly skilled—proficient in speaking, singing, acting, and comedy. They truly are talented!

However, to be fair, this company isn't the worst. I guarantee it! You shouldn't speak too one-sidedly. Although I really don't appreciate the boss, the boss's wife, Brother Xiang, or Brother Shuwei, people do tend to associate with their own kind, I guess! They're all in the same clique, stealing from one another above and below—such sycophants! Seems like it! Hah, hah, hah ^_^ What the heck, so unrefined! Sairui, keep it up!

Conclusion: That dimension and the real world outside are different dimensions! The end!

Hello everyone, I’m J. Many people on the neighboring board probably know me, but I won’t provide my ID. Today I’m here to share some interesting experiences.

Recently, I also participated in some patent-law-related matters. Although it was brief, I learned a lot. I wasn’t involved in the earlier history, so I don’t know enough to comment; perhaps some things happened in the past. Based on my current time with the company, however, I have seen very little of that—almost nothing, in fact. Patent law is suitable for people who are a little older to try: you can learn a lot about administrative coordination, help prevent Alzheimer’s, get to know yourself, and gain patent knowledge. However, it isn’t suitable as a long-term career. Why not? Humans are social animals; if you don’t interact with colleagues for a long time, you may lose your language skills. If you work as an executive assistant, don’t worry, because you frequently interact with clients and can continue training yourself. For other positions, if you’re afraid of feeling isolated, you can chat with the administrative manager after work. She really keeps secrets tightly—I can guarantee that. No matter how you try to fish for secrets during a conversation or set a trap for her, it won’t work, so everyone can feel comfortable treating her like a mother figure.

The colleagues actually get along very well. If you have any questions, you can ask anyone and get an answer; even the student workers are quite capable. There is no concept of cliques in the office.

As for working hours, there is no overtime: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Once you’re done, you can go straight home. As long as you organize your work and handle tomorrow’s tasks efficiently, you can leave on time every day, so I recommend making a work plan for yourself.

The office environment looks a bit like Jin X Leopard at the entrance, but it isn’t overly exaggerated. Inside, it has a traditional OA setup: clean, tidy, and bright—overall, it’s quite comfortable.

As for compensation, it is roughly in the middle range for private schools and nothing particularly outstanding. After the probation period, your salary will be adjusted according to your abilities, so there’s no need to worry.

Overall, I give the company 75 points, which is a passing score.

The company is evolving, but slowly, mainly because it takes on too many bad clients. Afraid of losing clients, it is willing to fulfill almost every client request. The company is not very good at setting limits and mainly focuses on not offending clients, which often leads clients to seek out cheaper firms after finishing their consultations. For example, Ai XX: the company handles more than 100 of their cases and they often come for consultations, but as many as 300 cases are handled by other firms. They are also establishing their own patent-application department and plan to handle matters themselves once they reach a certain stage—a textbook example of giving clients too much information.

Smart people should understand what I’m trying to say. If you don’t, the keywords are: market contraction, and the time lost through communication with clients. As for French documents, if you can’t get through them, send me an internal message and I’ll translate the key points for you.

The job analysis is as follows:

Administration; threshold: In the early stage, even a monkey can be promoted; later, if your evolution is incomplete, congratulations—you’re not even as capable as a monkey. Advantages: stable, suitable long term, higher EQ, and a clear advantage when changing jobs after two years. Disadvantages: none.

Suitable for: obedient types, people without a life plan, people who dislike communicating with others, and recent graduates.

Engineering; threshold: Your brain can’t have only true-or-false options; you need at least three or four possibilities, otherwise you’ll end up in a dead end. Advantages: three years of guaranteed gain with no loss, high autonomy, strong advantages for further education in the future, and a good chance of replacing the manager if your abilities are sufficient. Disadvantages: the manager’s ability is not particularly strong and he overwhelms you with rules of thumb; the initial period is quite difficult.

Suitable for: people considering further education, those who want to move toward a partly humanities-oriented path, and logical thinkers.

Executive assistant; threshold: at least three years after graduation and actual experience working with a boss, llIllIlIlIIlllIlIlIIlIlIIlllllll (find the I within 10 seconds). Advantages: EQ and IQ will grow exponentially, compensation is within a reasonable range, and you’ll understand the future direction of the market. Disadvantages: there are so many unintelligent clients that you’ll wonder whether you’re teaching in a kindergarten; communicating with difficult clients can consume 30 minutes.

Suitable for: internal administrative staff, people who are confident and firm in themselves, and those whose EQ is at least higher than Nai Ge’s.

Legal affairs: As far as I know, the possibility of future expansion is low, so I won’t elaborate.

In conclusion, the past will pass, and people who come here to work will not make things difficult for one another. Describing this company through the lens of personal emotions is unfair to those who may want to try it in the future; seeing such posts could discourage them from applying.

If you’re interested, why not give it a try? If it isn’t suitable, part ways amicably; if it is, congratulations.

You can definitely learn many things here. Participate and discover the details for yourself; whether they are useful depends on the individual.

P.S. There is no acrostic poem this time, so there’s no need to look for one. 2018/08–2018/09

Cons

The disadvantages section cannot be left blank, so if I have to mention one, the only major drawback overall is probably the head of the engineering department. Although they share a revolutionary bond, it would be better to have someone more proactive and quick-witted. Administration and executive assistants only need to deal directly with the engineering manager, who can carry out and relay the messages provided by administration, executive assistants, and managers. After all, they use different professional languages, while engineers are more likely to think alike. This can not only prevent missed details and ensure that information is conveyed completely and accurately, but also help track case progress. I’m not really sure what is going on underneath; it is honestly quite bad. Many problems that could have been avoided were allowed to happen, and there are plenty of ways to extract information through polite conversation as well—the level of risk awareness is insufficient.

Job duties: Patent engineer

Working hours: There are two schedules. Mondays and Fridays are 9:00–18:00, while Tuesdays through Thursdays are 9:00–19:30.

Salary structure: Base salary: 27,000

Overtime pay: Is there such a thing? How come I didn’t know about it? I heard it’s a responsibility-based system, so there’s no overtime pay~

Work bonus: Determined by the manager, between 1,000 and 5,000. University graduates get 1,000, and master’s graduates get 3,000. That’s all I know.

     Perfect-attendance bonus: 1,000

Performance bonus: 2,000 for 10 points, 7,000 for 15 points

Engineers’ basic performance requirement: 10 points per month (in principle, one case equals one point)

Salary deductions: If a case contains more than three typos, 100 is deducted from your salary......although I’ve never been penalized.

Labor and health insurance: High salary, low reported income! For example, my base salary is 27,000. I actually checked: normally, the insured salary should be reported at the next higher level, but the firm reported it as only 26,200? That level’s amount (26,200 or 26,400—I checked it once but forgot...) means 800 in retirement-fund contributions and protection is lost.

*Be aware of the firm’s tricks. Performance bonuses and perfect-attendance bonuses are clearly regular payments stipulated by the Labor Standards Act (that is, money earned by meeting your own work conditions), so they must be paid. However, the firm gives them to you in red envelopes on payday. If you resign, the firm will not give you this money.

Retirement benefits: Since the performance and perfect-attendance bonuses are not deposited into your account at all, there is basically no way to ensure your retirement security. Anyone thinking of staying at this firm for a long time should consider carefully. Personally, I would rather be a citizen who pays taxes on the full amount of my salary, because my retirement benefits would also be better protected.

The firm’s owner, supervisors, and general working conditions:

Basically, the owner is a typical exploitative employer, right? Why the question mark? Because everyone’s definition of an exploitative employer is a little different...perhaps some people would not consider this to be exploitative.

The firm requires employees to leave later on Tuesday through Thursday evenings. In the morning, when the owner or the owner’s wife arrives, you have to greet them. When leaving, you have to seek the approval of the supervisor, the owner, and the owner’s wife. The supervisor makes it sound nice by saying that, in principle, you can leave at 18:00 if there is nothing going on, but the workload assigned to you makes it basically impossible to leave that early. There was also a period when the end of the workday was 22:00. The supervisor would say, “It’s 10 o’clock already. The owner is getting off work and can’t wait for us. Have you finished processing the cases?” If you hadn’t finished, they would say, “Take them home and do them!” It wasn’t Friday—what time did they expect people to finish? And what about overtime pay? In the end, this was one of the reasons I resigned. During that period, everyone left at 10 and took cases home to work on, yet the owner said during a meeting, because our performance was poor, “Are we getting our money’s worth from you?” So I resigned. Then, on the resignation application I filled out, I was required to sign a statement “waiving legal rights”—in other words, to waive any claims under the Civil Code, Criminal Code, and Labor Standards Act. Even someone who does not understand the law would know that this is unreasonable, right?

That is why I put a question mark after “exploitative employer.” I believe many people in Taiwan would say that being worked hard for a while to gain experience is worthwhile, but this is exactly how employers become accustomed to exploiting people.

Advantages:

The supervisor of the patent department has a certain level of expertise. New employees receive training directly from him; for a full two months, they are almost entirely in training and only very occasionally provide work support. The training covers search techniques and how to draft patent claims. The firm is also extremely strict—even typos result in deductions, so you can imagine how strict they are with themselves. As I mentioned earlier, this firm is relatively busy, so people who want to learn can stay here. Once you have developed sufficient skills, I believe you can earn a decent salary at another firm as well. The key is having a certain level of efficiency and quality. For everyone’s reference.
