Hello everyone, I am the newly appointed HR manager at OVO Zhanjun Creative.

After learning about the situation from various managers and several long-term employees who moved from Hsinchu to Taipei, I would like to provide everyone with a brief explanation:

1. Interviews

Since there was no dedicated HR staff previously, some areas were not handled as thoroughly as they could have been. Please accept our apologies and understanding. We have begun manager training and process planning, and interview-related issues should already have been immediately improved.

2. Relocation

When the company moved from Hsinchu to Taipei, the company managers lacked relevant experience and expertise, which led to quite a few misunderstandings in communication. With the assistance of external experts and senior employees, the company ultimately proposed several support measures, including commuting subsidies, working from home, rental subsidies, and severance (the last resort). These were discussed with employees and necessary arrangements were made so that departing colleagues received the rights and benefits to which they were entitled. The managers have conducted a thorough review of their handling of the communication process, which was not as perfect as it could have been.

3. Cross-departmental support

Because the team was relatively small in the early stages, employees did indeed need to cooperate and support the work of other departments. We also thank the colleagues who worked and struggled together with us in the early days. At present, staffing levels in each position are higher, and situations requiring someone to be responsible for work across many different departments will no longer occur.

4. Not a family business

The early stages of starting the company were extremely difficult. Among industry veterans, only family members were more willing to give up their well-paid jobs elsewhere and join OVO to build the company together; two of the managers are the owner's family members. This year, we finally gained the recognition of professional investors and successfully completed fundraising. We have gradually recruited external managers and promoted internal managers, and will continue expanding the team as we work together toward the goal of going public and being listed.

OVO's resources and compensation are now very different. If there were areas in the past that we genuinely did not handle well, we will certainly review and improve them with care. Thank you, everyone.

Pros

None, I didn't work there.

Cons

I recently opened a job board and saw that this company was still posting a position.

I'm writing this down as a record and to avoid applying there again.

I interviewed there several years ago.

The interviewer came in holding a tablet

and kept scrolling down and asking questions. They must have asked at least 50 questions, if not 100.

They just kept asking questions about the relevant job title, probably ones they had found online.

They never once looked up at me, acting extremely arrogant.

At the end of the interview, they let me ask questions.

I asked what products the company currently had.

They told me there was only one.

I had thought they must have had many excellent products to warrant spending so much time verifying so many things.

If someone confirms technical knowledge with me and there is a relevant discussion, or even points out flaws in my arguments, I am happy to learn.

But they just kept firing off interview questions they had found, wasting people's time.

It really was completely unnecessary.

Pros

You wouldn't know without getting in.

Cons

The company is not very large and has no partitions, so everyone is crammed together in an inexplicably quiet environment.

You have to fill out basic information and an aptitude test, as well as a 200-word personal statement for the interview...

The interviewer asked you questions about your background while filling things out on a tablet. They barely looked at the interviewee throughout the entire interview, which felt rather disrespectful.

They asked what software you had used, what tools you knew, and so on. If they weren't interested, the atmosphere would instantly become awkward.

The interview ended hastily, and there was an answer just one or two days later.

Pros

Paid salary?

Won’t assign overly difficult tasks

Suitable for just getting through the workday

Cons

The other comments are all true; senior management are all family.

Management is relatively conservative. Although they want to change, they still can’t escape the problems of relying on old methods and lacking capabilities. I wonder if things have improved now?

I heard that several engineers have also left; it seems that they don’t stay long.

By the way, it’s still a startup even though it was founded a long time ago. The boss is business-oriented.

It’s best to bring your own computer

because the computers provided by the company are very old.

Junior employees are just tools, and the turnover rate seems to have remained very high.

I suggest negotiating for a higher base salary because the year-end bonus and the three holiday bonuses are all illusory (unless you can last a year).

If you’re just looking for a place to coast until retirement, it’s actually not a bad company.

Pros

The colleagues are all very nice.

Cons

It's probably best for interns not to come. Several interns have not had the opportunity to work on the subjects they originally wanted to intern in.

They always end up helping with shipments.

It's more like a part-time job.

Overtime is often required.

And you have to submit your class schedule for shift scheduling.

Pros

1. Diverse learning

2. Independent work

Cons

Moved from Hsinchu to Taipei, saying that even with high salaries, it was impossible to find good talent in Hsinchu, and that Taipei should be a better place to recruit.

Wants to hire professionals for 26K, who must be able to work independently and preferably also handle miscellaneous tasks.

1. Design needs to understand market demands so that it can connect with marketing.

2. Marketing needs to know a bit about warehouse management; otherwise, how are shipments supposed to be handled when the warehouse manager is absent?

3. Warehouse management needs to know how to key in orders~ That way they’ll know what’s going on with marketing!

4. Oh, and when a call comes in, R&D also needs to answer the phone! You know the product’s situation best.

5. The previous accountant also handled purchasing and administration, and even finished the accounts and issued the reports by the 5th, so @-/*=$...

6. Product management needs to know some marketing—at least 78%, right?

Oh, everyone needs to know a little about every field~~ Learning more means you won’t lose out!!

Forced employees in Hsinchu to work in Taipei as well, saying that if they did not accept, they could resign on their own, and that there was no such thing as severance pay.

They even asked employees to produce Article 14 of the Labor Standards Act.

1. The company said it would reimburse the original Hsinchu employees for transportation expenses after the relocation, and also said commuting time would count as working hours, but later went back on that and made a fuss about it.

2. Please, could employees who are being forced out work until whenever the company wants, wait until a replacement is found, train the new person, and make a proper handover? Please, please~

An employee was only a few days away from completing one year of service, but they deliberately refused to recognize the seniority in order to avoid paying annual leave compensation. They want to take advantage of people while asking them to resign early.

Even after the handover was completed and the employee had left, they kept calling. When the new hire ran away, they still had the nerve to call and ask the former employee to go back and help.

Or should everyone fill out the overtime forms for the entire period of employment? Don’t they understand that people should part on good terms?

3. The new talent hasn’t been found yet—can’t you stay until a replacement is found before leaving?

4. Since you’ve already found a new job, can I avoid paying you severance pay?

5. Although the company tells you when to work until, you should still have some sense of responsibility and push the performance up! You can’t be this irresponsible!

6. Don’t tell anyone that you were forced out. If colleagues outside the company ask, just say that you resigned~~ Please, please~~

7. Family businesses easily blur the line between public and private matters. The company’s affairs are your affairs! Their family’s affairs are your affairs too! Whether your salary is adjusted is none of your business!

8. Other (there are too many to list, so omitted)

All the employees in Hsinchu were laid off. Speaking of this... everyone already knows about it anyway.

I don’t really understand why the company is afraid people will find out that it laid off a large number of employees.

Pros

1. Flexible scheduling of work hours; supervisors generally arrive late and leave early

2. A high degree of independence in carrying out tasks

Cons

1. Only about 40% of the benefits stated in the job posting are actually implemented, with no improvement from the time of joining until leaving.

2. They are reluctant to pay overtime; employees are treated as the company's general laborers.

3. The boss tells you to do things using method A, then the boss's wife comes and asks why you used method A.

4. Supervisors will come and interfere with you when you are busiest.

5. When you submit your resignation, the supervisor will start finding fault with you and go back on what they said.

Pros

The compensation at 104 looks quite attractive (?

Cons

I won’t even get into the interview process; everything mentioned above happened to me. Before leaving, I specifically asked to be notified as soon as possible. The boss also agreed in person that they would let me know promptly, and then I never heard from them again.

I feel that a company that cannot even keep its promises is not worth joining.

Pros

The company is quite nice, and the lady at the front desk has a pleasant voice. That's about it.

Cons

During the interview, I briefly described my past experience, but the manager was not really listening attentively.

Why am I sure that the manager was not listening carefully?

For example, my self-introduction went like this: I had previously worked in southern Taiwan for two years, and I had just returned to northern Taiwan this year to look for a job.

After listening, the manager then asked: So, were you studying or working in southern Taiwan before?

--

Another example:

My self-introduction went like this: I worked at XX Company for two years. My position at the time was XXXXXX, and my responsibilities included XXXXXXX.

After listening, the manager then asked: So, what was your position at XX Company before?

--

After the above conversations, I had essentially repeated my self-introduction twice already.
