Pros

1. Zero workplace boredom

It’s like watching a TV series—the private gossip never ends.

2. Challenging interpersonal relationships

The mid- to senior-level core team drinks and socializes every week, and finding a way into the inner circle is quite a darkly challenging endeavor.

3. A sense of glory

The team leaders all have an almost imperious sense of glory, brainwashing people with the notion that 17LIVE is a major corporation, a startup leader, and similar glorifying claims.

Cons

1. Absolutely no management mechanisms

You follow the process requested by your supervisor and submit the paperwork, only for the recipient to cancel it on the grounds that “someone else is already handling the same project.” When you ask the recipient’s supervisor, they say no one is handling it. You raise it as much as possible, raise it again, and then it gets rejected once more. You ask the department head to coordinate, but the head tells you to coordinate with the recipient’s supervisor yourself? Everyone is waiting for their grudges to be resolved before they can get anything done.

2. Unfair evaluations

The cumbersome evaluation process is full of loopholes, yet even supervisors cannot answer questions about it. After a poor evaluation, there are no corresponding measures—just endless interviews, while the workload remains unchanged. On top of that, your gossip will be passed along by HR after the interview.

3. Endless seat changes

The organization is restructured every two months, and you get a new direct supervisor every four months—both decided abruptly and without warning.

4. Boring work

It’s like working as a miner: after finishing one mine, you still cannot get the company to sign another mining business deal, so your supervisor will ask you to keep digging in the barren mine. When a boulder blocks your path and you ask the boss to arrange professional demolition workers, you get a response like, “Just keep digging around the boulder—the monthly target still has to be met, okay~”

Pros

1. You might see a celebrity or influencer

Cons

1. There is no private interview space; the interview takes place in an open office, where there are often scrutinizing looks and office chatter in the background. Maybe they should just throw a rap party instead.

Pros

The company's headquarters on Ren'ai Road is beautifully built.

Cons

There were two interviewers, and the interview lasted only 30 minutes.

From the self-introduction to the presentation of the activity proposal, the pace was very rushed; it felt like they were hurrying me along from start to finish.

Perhaps because the interviewers were pressed for time, their questions about my résumé were not very detailed.

Pros

The new building is pretty nice, and HR asked very detailed questions.

Cons

There was no follow-up after the interview, and they didn’t notify me either. HR asked very detailed questions, but I guess that’s just how livestreaming has been these past few years—there aren’t any new tricks left to try.

Colleagues who likewise want to change the situation understand your pain, and you can share it together at work.

Cons

First, if you are considering joining, please first understand what the “live-streaming industry” is. This industry is very special. If the product you work on is something you dislike, please run quickly. Even though 17 may currently offer slightly higher pay than the industry average (but the benefits have also been reduced recently), do not waste your youth on something you dislike. It will not build value for your future, nor will it give you anything worthwhile to take with you or talk about. Later, when you move to a company where you can genuinely develop your skills, you may actually be offered a lower salary.

The engineering department may be somewhat better, but after the layoffs, it is hard to say.

Second, some live-streaming apps could be made very well. Unfortunately, they simply keep copying the same monetization model and lack innovation.

Third, the management system is extremely chaotic. A large number of parachuted-in outsiders have become managers without even understanding the company’s systems, basic operations, or the product itself. A large group of people can be parachuted in like this, and the company does not even communicate normally with subordinates. It is incredibly ridiculous. Then, whenever problems arise, they make subordinates solve them or issue random instructions, while completely failing to take on the role of providing guidance, direction, or assistance in moving things forward.

Fourth, the company simply does not have enough resources. More importantly, its basic infrastructure is poor. (To be honest, even though all the young people have enthusiasm, they do not have deep insight into their respective fields, nor are their skills particularly strong.) Requests just get stuck in midair—stuck, stuck, stuck—so nothing can get done. Managers do not really care and will not proactively fight for anything; they just let it slip by with a blink.

Fifth, who among the people working here genuinely cares about the work in front of them or wants to make changes? If you still have some ideas about your life and are a smart person, sorry, but this place cannot accommodate you, because it is genuinely not strong. It also looks nothing like the kind of startup it claims to be—a flat organization. The systems are chaotic; even expense reimbursements require hand-writing 300 forms. Office politics are severe, and the company’s support departments—HR and Finance—will take you down first.

This place is more like a traditional industry company. For all you know, traditional industry companies may even be more creative................... There is no concrete strategy; they are very good at PR and issuing press releases.

If you have a lot of ideas, you really should not come here—you will suffer. The company does not value talent. Anyway, young people in Taiwan are all treated as disposable, which is very convenient. Communication between departments is a matter of intelligence and logic. Be extremely careful, and do not continue enabling this kind of company that underestimates the maturity and ideals of young people.

2. Challenges in interpersonal relationships

3. A sense of glory

Pros

1. The office is quite comfortable and conveniently located.

2. The overall benefits are pretty good, including free lunch, snacks, and drinks.

3. They’re fairly generous with salaries. If you want to join, just ask for as much as you can.

Cons

1. They recklessly lay people off, only to realize afterward that there are too many tasks and not enough staff, and then start hiring again.

2. The boss only wants people who follow orders. Those with too many opinions or questions may be laid off, no matter how capable they are. If you want to join, just obediently follow instructions and get things done.

3. Quite a few incompetent people hold senior positions, while those who truly should be laid off are still there.

4. The benefits have been gradually cut back, giving it very much the feeling of slowly boiling a frog.

5. The boss neither values nor respects employees very much, believing that everyone can be easily replaced anyway.

6. After the layoffs, the workload exploded, but they still weren’t willing to show even a little appreciation by giving employees a raise.

Cons

1. The interview was divided into three rounds: future colleagues, HR, and the manager. The future colleague’s attitude during the interview was extremely uncomfortable, with an expression that said, “How do you not know anything?” (But the questions they asked made very little sense—quite laughable.)

2. The manager seemed extremely busy and pressed for time. The questions they asked were also not very precise, leaving me unsure what they actually wanted to ask.

3. In the end, I proactively wrote to decline the offer, but the HR representative still insisted on sending a template email saying, “The competition was very intense, so unfortunately we cannot offer you the position,” blah blah blah. I don’t understand the purpose of this. Is it meant to create the impression that their company is very popular?

Pros

The environment is nice.

Cons

I interviewed for a part-time audiovisual position and was accepted after the interview, but they told me there would be no labor or health insurance because it was considered outsourcing? Outsourcing at an extremely low hourly wage—if I’m outsourced, do I still need to come to the company? Then they said that because the salary was already not much, enrolling me in the insurance would leave me with even less. Well, you know it’s low yourself… Is that my fault? The part-time position also required that they hoped I would come to work every day. Absurd. They wanted to hire a full-time employee at minimum wage, while the office was located in a high-end commercial building in Taipei City and they wouldn’t even provide labor and health insurance. I didn’t think such a stingy and unlawful company would treat its employees well in the future, so I declined.

Pros

Interviewed twice, with different departments.

The advertising department supervisor was pretty good and patient.

Cons

The person handling e-commerce for Branch 17 was a young team lead.

They gave me a front-end layout coding test on the spot that day. I didn’t understand what the key factor was in deciding whether someone would be hired or not. Was it enough to complete it quickly within his ideal timeframe?

I thought they would review the code, but they didn’t look at the coding style or semantics either. If I had known that, I wouldn’t have needed to write it in a particularly sophisticated way; just writing something casually would probably have been enough to complete it.

I don’t know whether they hire people they already know more quickly. It was a waste of the applicant’s time.

The interviewer seemed like they were looking for someone to do their homework. As soon as I went in, they started asking all kinds of questions about my work experience, opinions, methods of operation, and hands-on experience and views, etc. They did not introduce themselves or explain the job at all. Afterward, they said, “I’ve finished my questions. Do you have any questions?” Then they told me to hand my résumé to the front desk. As soon as I left, I immediately ran into the next interviewee. It felt like they had scheduled one person per hour, perhaps calling each person in to ask about industry secrets. I wonder if anyone else has encountered this kind of situation. It was awful.

Pros

1. A small bottle of mineral water is provided.

2. The company is located in an area with convenient transportation.

Cons

1. The interviewer lacked professionalism and did not have much experience. They came across as a rookie trying to act like a big shot while interviewing a seasoned professional.

2. The questions lacked focus, and the interviewer did not respect the candidate. They had not thoroughly reviewed the candidate’s background or professional abilities before the interview and did not even look at the résumé until the interview itself.

3. In response to the candidate’s questions, the answers failed to address the key points, and the attitude was also unfriendly.

4. The interviewer seemed to be in a great hurry, omitting nearly all of the basic courtesies expected in an interview.

5. The interviewer was unusually cold, as if making you put your warm face against a cold rear end.

The company should avoid sending such an incompetent interviewer, as this damages the company’s image.

Cons

Being interviewed by a supervisor and peers is perfectly reasonable, but having subordinates interview a prospective supervisor—and even having them adopt a condescending attitude—is rather disrespectful.

It feels as though internal business problems have arisen that you cannot handle yourselves, so you invite a group of industry professionals for interviews and, in the process, get them to provide solutions free of charge.

After all, you are a startup. When asked whether the company has started making money or reached break-even, you do not receive a straightforward answer.
