Salary is paid on time

Cons

Dragon Boat Festival and Mid-Autumn Festival bonuses went from half a month’s salary to 1,000

The year-end bonus is fixed at one month’s salary

The performance bonus went from one month’s salary to an unknown amount

Stop dangling empty promises in front of employees. We’ve had more than enough.

The company still isn’t listed on the stock exchange or OTC market, oh ho ho

Pros

1. Convenient transportation, close to the MRT station

2. Salary is paid on time

Cons

1. One person in a certain department holds a senior position. I heard they have a background in marketing, but they completely lack the ability; all they do is make things more complicated. Another person has made their role seem like a supervisor position, but cannot do anything and only avoids taking responsibility and tells others what to do. Their speech lacks focus.

2. The company has no systems whatsoever. You have no idea what the company is doing, and there are no real policies to speak of.

3. The workload does not match the job title. You are expected to take on multiple roles without additional pay, and nothing gets done properly.

4. Everyone is overly secretive and suspicious of others. It is a company of fewer than 50 people, yet information does not circulate at all.

5. A pitiful health examination subsidy of around 3,600; you also have to find the examination provider yourself and apply for reimbursement afterward.

Pros

In the bustling city center, about a five-minute walk from Zhongxiao Xinsheng MRT Station.

Cons

1. The level of freedom falls somewhat short of what one might imagine from a foreign company. The flexible working hours require eight hours per day, with clock-in between 8:30 and 9:30, and a full eight hours of working time must be completed. If you leave your seat midway through the day (for around fifteen minutes), your supervisor will "check in" on you. There is also no flexibility regarding leave. For example, if you want to take the afternoon off and plan to take leave until 18:00, because you arrived at 9:01 in the morning, you must take leave until 18:30, as the minimum leave unit is 30 minutes.

2. The benefits listed on the job-search website differ from the actual benefits.

a. The company is neither listed nor OTC-listed, yet it says employees will receive stock; in practice, there is no commitment or alternative arrangement.

b. The health examination requirements are cumbersome. For rank-and-file employees (those whose titles are below vice president), health examinations are required once every two years, with a subsidy of NT$3,600 for those under 40 and NT$4,500 for those aged 40 or above.

c. The year-end bonus is fixed at one month.

3. The company is small but has many supervisors. Frontline employees are expected to be jacks-of-all-trades, while the allocation of responsibilities is extremely unclear. During interviews, the duties of the position are described vaguely, but the actual work is far beyond what one could imagine. Raising concerns is ineffective: the relevant supervisors do not understand the work, yet do not care about the corresponding responsibilities. When urgent tasks arise, they are delegated downward; when the results are good, the supervisor takes the credit. In addition, even taking legitimate unpaid leave in accordance with company policy may result in comments that your attendance is poor.

4. Those in higher positions always say that the company is making money and paint all kinds of rosy pictures, but they are extremely stingy with every R&D and activity budget. They also rely on applications for government subsidies, causing all kinds of projects to remain indefinitely stalled from planning through execution.

5. A gloomy atmosphere pervades the company. Employees are always working at their desks; otherwise, they are in the meeting room.

Pros

About a five- to eight-minute walk from MRT Dongmen Station and Zhongxiao Xinsheng Station, making transportation convenient.

Cons

1. The company name may contain the words “U.S. company,” but it is fundamentally a fake foreign enterprise. Although the parent company is in the United States, locally it consists only of a chairperson who immigrated from Taiwan, marketing personnel driven by (white) superiority, and a finance employee who also handles a bunch of other tasks. R&D, sales, the production line, and administrative support are all in Taiwan.

2. There are severe gaps between departments: at the top are deputy general managers and department heads, while below them are only entry-level employees. Except for R&D, most departments are one-person units with impressive-sounding titles meant to deceive people. Many employees have to take on multiple roles—for example, R&D staff also handling sales, or graphic designers also serving as sales assistants.

3. The company’s regulations and SOPs are merely empty talk; everything is decided by the general manager. How is performance quantified? No one knows. Market positioning and targets? They fire blindly in every direction, and whatever lands in the basket is considered a success. The marketing plan is even less worth mentioning. Whether something is important or trivial depends entirely on the general manager’s mood: major issues are often ignored, while minor matters are nitpicked. The general manager constantly boasts to employees about the company’s vision (such as plans to go public in 2025), but in reality, no one knows whether the company is making money or where the money is being spent. Benefits are virtually nonexistent; all they do is make grand promises every day.

4. The employees lack ability, especially the HR staff, who are completely incompetent professionally and know nothing about relevant regulations or practical interpretations. They only push their work onto others and delay other people’s progress to accommodate themselves. The reason they can control so much within the company is that they curry favor with the general manager.

5. The company’s interior and exterior environments are dirty and disorderly, with miscellaneous items scattered everywhere. There is no switchboard operator or receptionist, and not even an extension system. The phone can ring for ages without anyone answering... The above is only a partial list of the problems.

Pros

Cons

Recently, a whole bunch of senior executives have left, and some of those who remain may also be quietly looking for a way out through their connections (even the general manager doesn’t know about it).

Some people have also been laid off. Of course, the stated reason will be something like failing to meet work targets, but the actual reason... well, you absolutely won’t be able to find out during an interview!

It’s not just senior executives who leave; regular employees don’t stay long either. Several people in R&D have come and gone. It seems that there is basically no management here—supervisors do whatever they feel like. They nitpick over trivial matters as if they were major issues, while they themselves can’t do or manage the genuinely important things properly!

Don’t assume the company is high-class just because its name includes the words “foreign company,” and don’t assume communication will be smooth just because the company is small. Look at all those senior executives (a whole bunch of managers, vice presidents, and other senior staff) with only a group of engineers under them—you can tell what they’re actually doing from that organizational gap alone.

Being able to become a vice president, deputy manager, manager, or whatever here is basically just because you joined the company early, then couldn’t leave and kept staying until you could rise that high.

Having a dream is beautiful

Cons

Last year, many employees left one after another. Although the company later rehired only two people—an accountant and a backend developer—they returned because they were offered a series of generous benefits, such as working from home and a high salary. However, if you do not receive surprising benefits and compensation, you are very likely to meet the same fate as those who left previously.

We cannot help but ask: Why did these two people return? Was it because the company could not find other qualified talent and therefore had no choice but to offer a large number of benefits to bring them back?

For those considering joining this company, I suggest that you think carefully:

Why would a company of such a small size lose so many employees in such a short period? Can you believe the explanation given officially by the company?

Are you really willing to risk wasting your time by giving it a try?

Do you think the people conducting the interviews are trustworthy? Do they have sufficient experience?

Once you join this company, will you have good career development opportunities?

Before making a decision, think independently and observe carefully. I believe you will find the answer!

In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man can be king.

Cons

But now that you're going in, the one-eyed men are already the bosses. There's no way they'll give you opportunities to perform or learn—unless they resign. Otherwise, you'll only ever be working under the one-eyed men, even if... you're one of the clear-sighted.

But the one-eyed men aren't going to resign.

Their abilities are merely average. After finally staying here long enough to become entrenched veterans, everyone has an impressive-sounding title. It would be difficult for them to find such good positions elsewhere (with authority, money, familiarity, and leaving work on time), and they wouldn't be able to call the shots like they do here.

During the interview, please calmly and carefully examine the experience and abilities of those entrenched veterans!! You may discover that you're being interviewed and talked down to by a group of people who are even less experienced than you.

In 2022, almost the entire R&D department left, and some people from other departments left as well!!

Aside from those entrenched veterans who benefit from the status quo, all that remained were...

People who complain all day but don't dare leave (they feel they're too old to find another job),

people who can't be bothered to leave (the company is close to home),

people who just want to make money (thinking they'll simply sell eight hours to the company in exchange for money, with little ambition at work), and

workplace rookies (rookie managers can bluff their way through anything, and workplace rookies think it all sounds very reasonable)... None of them resigned; everyone else who could leave did.

If a company can give ordinary employees a vision and opportunities for growth, rather than merely drawing empty promises for them, then why have so many people resigned?! Some of those who left had worked there for a year, two years, or even less. Sure, some worked there for three or four years, but the point is, why did these people leave? It's not as though they simply left because their time was up, right?!

Doesn't that mean everyone finally couldn't take it anymore?! That they felt they were wasting their lives?!

A: If you can accept a family business, then come on over!

B: This is an American company, not a family business!
