This job leaves you
full of negative energy~
Recommend avoiding it
About the only thing that occasionally brings some healing is seeing cute customers bring in their cute pets.
The following applies only to the Qingpu branch; it does not apply to the other branches.
Putting aside whether there is a lot of work or whether it is complicated and tedious—those are things one can adapt to—the problem is that you are constantly interrupted halfway through your work. There is a very high chance that the interruptions come from a certain managerial employee, who likes to suddenly ask you to help with this or that. It feels like they work according to their mood: whenever they think of something that needs to be done, it has to be done immediately. Sometimes they send private messages; otherwise, they tag you directly in the group or call you. Once, it was almost time to leave work. Since I had the next day off and did not want to leave work unfinished and cause trouble for the colleague covering for me the following day, I failed to notice that I had been tagged in the group. That managerial employee then called me directly. Their tone sounded clearly unpleasant, and it felt like I was being interrogated when they said, “Didn’t you see the message?” Everyone has their own work to do. I had not even finished my own tasks, yet I was expected to keep an eye on the messages and remain on standby at all times, waiting for orders. It felt absolutely awful~ They also often suddenly point out or correct something the moment it occurs to them. They may have completely forgotten what they themselves said when initially giving instructions, and after being told to correct something, you may discover that they do not follow the method they themselves insisted on~
I do not know what that managerial employee originally discussed with the boss, but they can decide at any time whether to come in early or at the regular start time on a given day. In return, coming in early means leaving early. Personally, I have no objection to coming early and leaving early; perhaps they come in early because they want to take care of official work? I do not know.
However, arriving late is also the norm. Many times, a message is received after work the previous day, or only before work begins that same day. Perhaps they do not think this causes trouble for their colleagues. The most memorable instance was when they did not arrive at the company until after 4 p.m. The boss had already arrived, and the only thing that was confirmed was that they still had not arrived—then nothing happened.
That manager particularly likes to catch mistakes. Whenever they find one, they take a photo and post it in the group to publicly shame the person, perhaps because they are afraid the boss will think they are not doing anything. Little do they realize that they themselves have also been caught making mistakes quite a few times. Other colleagues simply do not want to make an issue of it, and when they really are posted in the group, they just laugh it off~
Oh, right~ The position you apply for may not necessarily be the position you are immediately assigned to once you join. They may first have you learn other tasks, so that if a sudden vacancy comes up elsewhere in the future, you can flexibly provide support and fill in~
Even the beauticians have to help clean the staff accommodations. Several times, that manager asked me to pass on a message requesting that the beauticians help clean the accommodations. I do not know what authority a minor employee like me had to tell beauticians to clean. As for the bonuses, I do not know whether beauticians receive a share for helping with cleaning; after all, directly asking someone about their salary is rather impolite. However, the cleaning was certainly not infrequent. Before I resigned, the pattern was roughly that whenever it was time to clean the accommodations, if a beautician was not bathing or grooming a dog or cat, they would be called to “help” with the cleaning~
When I submitted my resignation, I tactfully said that I could not adapt to the job and that it was emotionally exhausting. In reality, more accurately, I could not adapt to that manager’s way of doing things. It was truly exhausting to work there~
The above is based on my own personal experience. I will not say much about the parts I only heard about, as I have no way to verify them. Please take this as a reference.
Makes you no longer a “rotten strawberry”
The following is about the Qingpu store.
If you really want to come work here, you have to muster all your courage and energy. When I first started, everything was actually fine, and I felt that everyone took good care of one another. Later, I realized that we were being asked to do things that were clearly not part of the job I had applied for, while the pay remained the same.
Chatting during work is inevitable, but one supervisor really kept telling me every day how great and wonderful her boyfriend was. She would even video-call or talk on the phone with her partner during work, listen to podcasts, bring her boyfriend to the store to look around, and so on.
Because she was doted on by the owner, even after we informed the owner, this behavior continued to be tolerated, as if what she did were not serious at all, resulting in blatant double standards.
We had to put up with this supervisor arriving late and leaving early. Whenever she had a day off or several days off in a row the next day, she would suddenly fall ill and leave early the day before. Otherwise, she would message you early that morning to say she would be late. When scheduling days off, she insisted on choosing certain days for herself. Everyone had agreed that each person could take only one Saturday or Sunday off, yet she could schedule three days, and she was even late one of those days, completely disregarding whether there were enough staff.
Once, I got into a traffic accident on my way to work. The owner and supervisor did not show much concern. When they called, they immediately asked, “Then give up your three consecutive days off next month so someone else can schedule them.”
On the day of the accident, I had just been discharged from the hospital and was in a wheelchair, yet I was still thinking about company matters. I deliberately went to the store to hand over my duties to my coworkers and asked the owner’s wife how long I could take off. She actually replied, “Go ahead and try taking three weeks off.”
At the time, I was genuinely baffled that someone could say something like that.
And yes—after resting for 10 days, I was required to return to work because of the staff shortage. My foot was still bleeding as I moved heavy objects, and no one helped me.
Oh—and there was no subsidy or compensation at all, because I was covered through the trade union.
The owner is completely unwilling to listen to employees’ opinions, yet still expects employees to offer their own views. When I informed him about a system problem, he replied, “You’re just trying to slack off, aren’t you?”
Everyone can think about it for themselves~
Haven’t thought of any yet
The following is a personal account of working at the Qingpu branch. I am unclear and uncertain about the conditions at other branches, so please do not generalize based on this account.
I. Job duties
There are no fixed duties. You apply for Job A, but if the person doing Job B suddenly resigns, you have to do Job B instead (even though the company still has a supervisor for Job B), while your Job A is left there. They will then spend money to hire someone else to fill your original Job A position.
Also, everyone is required to clean the dog boarding area and the cat room.
II. Working hours
The scheduled hours are 11:00–21:00, with two meals provided. Do you see the problem? It means two meals, not two hours of break~
III. Workplace atmosphere
Things are generally fine, and everyone is busy. But there is a particular person who can leave you completely speechless, and there is nothing you can do about it because they have powerful backing. They have so much compensatory leave that they can casually arrive late or leave early without even notifying the boss in advance, and nothing happens <3
When staffing was insufficient that day, this person arrived at the company after 4 p.m. without informing me at all. After arriving, they acted as if nothing had happened and insisted that they had sent me a message and that I simply had not seen it (it was later proven that they had not sent one). They even went to tell other coworkers that they felt I seemed a little angry. May I ask whether I had any reason not to be angry? The entire store’s work was thrown into chaos because no one knew what time you would arrive or how to arrange the work. After the boss found out, they merely said one thing: “Oh.”
And that was it.
IV. Benefits
Uh, for me, they amounted to zero. Maybe other people got to enjoy some? Nothing is provided in writing, so make sure to ask clearly.
This is the stingiest company I have encountered in my ten years in the workforce.
In August, sales were close to reaching the target before the end of the month. The boss held a staff dinner on August 31, which happened to be a day off for two coworkers who were about to resign (not a designated holiday). While both were still employed, the boss tagged everyone in the group chat and said that those who were tagged could attend the dinner on August 31, while anyone not tagged had to sign up separately and pay for themselves. Naturally, the two departing coworkers were not tagged, even though they were still employed when they saw the message.
The boss’s meaning was that bonuses are settled the following month and that employees must still be employed the following month to be eligible.
Oh, I see.
During my eight months of employment, did the boss provide more than eight drinks?
I am not saying that this system is wrong or that the boss is a bad person~ I am simply stating the actual situation for all fellow workers to use as a reference.
None of the above comments are intended to disparage, spread rumors, speculate, fabricate falsehoods, or make unverified claims about or target anyone; they are solely based on my personal experience.
To be frank, working here was extremely painful and not worth it. That’s all.
