There used to be a distinction between the two plants, and the atmosphere was very different, but they have now been merged. The current state is that of the worse plant. The benefit of two meals has been cut, replaced with a NT$50 meal allowance for one meal—a completely out-of-touch amount.
Employees who have stayed too long have become soft and listless like mud. The lack of processes makes it difficult to get things done. Those above act as they please, intervening whenever they want; those below lack attitude and professionalism and only want to muddle through each day. There is no ability to think. Rather than palace intrigue, it is more like the chaotic infighting of a makeshift gang. No one wants to solve problems; they only want to find someone to push forward as a scapegoat.
Managers like to lie and make reckless promises. They talk badly about people behind their backs, abuse their authority, and undermine those who work seriously to elevate their own status. In fact, all of this becomes apparent with just a little investigation.
The company is highly closed-off, with limited career development. The longer you stay, the harder it becomes to return to the normal world.
Train your mind not to be influenced by rumors
If your supervisor doesn’t want to fire you and wants to force you to resign, they will spread rumors and false information. Many times, other people at the company know more about what’s going on than you do?! If you’re good at palace intrigue, this place is quite suitable—and they’re also very good at psychological manipulation.
Most of it complies with the Labor Standards Act, which is probably the only advantage.
The gifts for the three major holidays are unsold company gift boxes, which can save you quite a bit of money on purchases. Great.

1. I said most of it. The unwritten rule for overtime is to take compensatory leave whenever possible; you only get the option to cash it out readily when you resign.

I worked there for nearly three years and am a theater enthusiast myself, yet I was suddenly laid off the day before Lunar New Year. Even my own supervisor only found out at the last minute. The company cuts costs so much that it even skimps on employee meals. The location is remote, and quite a few people from elsewhere specifically moved there and rented housing, only to be treated this way. The experience was extremely unpleasant.
Theater enthusiasts who are pursuing their dreams should be careful. After leaving, you may end up like me—emotionally devastated and no longer willing to offer your support.

Actually, this family-owned company cannot let go of its control. The plant manager and middle managers above make empty promises about career prospects. Perhaps the biggest hidden concern is Huang Wen-ze’s voice—those who follow the drama probably know exactly what I mean…
Young people with great ambitions are not suited to working here; it is too closed-off and too comfortable inside.
It is impossible for salaries in Huwei to be high. The situation above is already very bad, and the Taipei company is even worse…

When I was still inexperienced and interviewed there, I wrote down an expected salary of around NT$23,000. The interviewer looked surprised and said, “You’re asking for NT$23,000 right off the bat???!! We start at NT$19,000~”
Then they smiled brightly and said, “But we provide meals and a housing allowance, and you work Monday through Saturday~”
This is one of the scenes I’ll never forget. I learned that writing down NT$23,000 as my expected salary was apparently a very unreasonable thing to do.
Regardless, I went to work there with enthusiasm. I quite liked the work itself, and they did give time off in lieu for overtime, although the overtime pay was a bit low.
Not having two days off per week was really exhausting too (though I think they have that now).
